about a month ago i noticed that my truck makes a squeeling noise like something is releasing pressure.my truck is a '97 sonoma 4.3. the sound only lasts for about 2 seconds starting at a higher pitch and fading away. it gets extremely anoying and when some1 is sittin in my truck and it happens, their first impression is "what the hell was that"? does anyone know why it does this??
thanks

Sounds like a belt squeal to me. Or maybe or tensionor pulley is bad that is a pretty common problem in your year model truck.

You could try removing the belt and starting it and see if that gets rid of it. Don't run it too long like that though.

Sounds like the belt, put some water on the belt and see if the squeeling noise goes away. If it does then it's the belt.

no water, put some liquid dish soap on it. ( i have always been told lemon joy, why the lemon you might ask? nothing like your engine smelling good!) that should take care of the problem for a while

no its not the belt...i know what that sounds like on cold mornings but this is like really quiet to the point where you can just barely hear it and it drives you crazy. like i said it sounds like pressure being relesed off of something....i mite want to add in that my air conditioning isnt very cold and we have filled the freon twice now and nothing helps..i dont kno if that has nething to do with it since i havent ran my air conditioning for about 2 weeks now and the noise is still there. and my compressor kicks on constantly
has any1 hear ever heard a teapot whistle??like the sound it makes when you pull it off of the stove and it gets quiet.... well if you have, the sound is like that for about 2 seconds..
i've got no other ways to explain this to you guys so anything you can think of is welcome!!

I actually had that about 2 weeks ago... wasnt my air conditioning but my heater core.... my compressor would kick on about every 5 seconds... and it was REALLY noisy... i started to notice some fog accumulating JUST on the passenger side of the windshield.... had it fixed and it hasnt happened since. Dont know if its the same problem but it sounds like what happened to me.

If you have the defroster on, the compressor will also cycle on and off, is this what you are hearing? Could it be air rushing past the throtle body? You may notice this if the stock airbox has been changed or modified. May also be a heater core as listed above.
