You don't really plug and play w/ an intake.. But seriously the kit should and most likely will come with everything you need. what kind did you buy because i can help you out more if i knew

i'm actually not sure they just went thru a list and picked out the best one for the money. i think it was something like aem or something... it started with an A. i'll let you know when it get's here. i know it's not actually plug and play but it's not to complicated..

dude, who picked the best one for the money? personally I like K&N, some like APC, some AEM, some Volant, and so on and so forth. If it was a website that picked the right one for you, I guaruntee they picked the one that will bring them the biggest profit.

Agreed, K&N may be a little more but it fits easily and is a very respectable product. And if you want to customize YOUR truck why did you let anyone pick anything out for you

I've got the AEM brute force in mine. I love it! Very easy install with some minor cutting of the fan shroud for clearence. I personally like the look of the polished aluminum.

The AEM looks nice but now the fan shroud is sloppy looking. Are you going to smooth it out?

The AEM looks nice but now the fan shroud is sloppy looking. Are you going to smooth it out?Yeah it looks like crap but i have another one i havnt out in yet. The blade i used to cut it made one hell of a mess. the new shroud will be smoothed out before i put it in.

If you really want to break it down to the numbers they will all perform the same to a degree. The ones with a heat shield will do better by keeping the under hood hot air out of the intake air charge. And they all use the same K&N style filter. So I say go for the cheapest one with a heat shield if performance is what your looking for.But if looks play a factor well then that comes down to personal choice.I have yet to see a dyno sheet or track time to prove that one is significantly better than the other one except for the ones with the heat shield. And there is a debate if the K&N style filters really even offer any improvement in power over the stock paper filter. But that is a totally different subject we can leave for another question lol.

Outside sales rep for my local parts supplier came in the other day. Talking about how since he put his cat-back on (nice system also!) his mileage went to crap ( '03 4.3 C1500). Looked at the fuel trims and MAF. Heh. "You put a K&N on at the same time?". Yup. Pulled it out, cleaned off the greasy MAF sensor, put a paper filter back in. Instant mileage increase. Well just damn.......

i never reall found out but will an air intake give you better or worst gas milage? and by about how much?

Sparky2263

Depends on the total mass of your right foot ;).

Wolverine

if you drive under normal consitions it should improve gas mileage, but like sparky said, the thought of a couple more hp puts a little more lead in your foot. which then will give you worse gas mileage because you are riding the pedal to much

good deal, what did you use to cut the original?

mrmidnight

probably a breakaway knife, or a ratchet blade or a box cutter as called in some parts of NA thats what it looks like all 3 names are the same thing

Lo'nomA
08-22-05, 11:02 PM
good deal, what did you use to cut the original?A jig saw with a worn blade! LOL! I was also pretty excited to finally get it so that was part of the problem too!

Hey, I just installed one of the "chromeintakes" non-brand name kits off ebay. I can definitely notice the increase and power and like the change in sound, but the kits just didn't fit right. Anyone worked with those in the past? It seems like the couplers are not long enough and I'm worried about the section that attaches to the throttle body. I'm a noob when it comes to mods, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Wolverine

does the rest fit good though? as far as placement in the engine? because if it is just ur connections you are worried about go bick up some bigger couplers, rubber mine are like 3 1/2" wide maybe 4 and clamp thos *****es on tight so no air leaks

it's now been almost 2 months later and i still don't have my intake... still trying to wait patiently. i was talking to them the whole time and it was on backorder as is everything i order from them.. last week i checked and it was in montreal coming to newfouldland. they told me it should be here this week and their truck gets in tomorrow so i can't wait to see if it's on it... wish me luck.. what is the stock HP rating at the wheels and engine of the 96' GMC sonoma?

I have read some how-to's on how to mod the current air intake by removing the silencer which in the picture looks like a oil filter and plugging the hole with a paint lid.

Well I took mine off my '96 Sonoma 2.2L and the silencer part is molded in I don't see any way of blocking it off with out cutting it open and blocking it from the inside then gluing it back together. So my question is has anyone done this style mod and the '96 2.2L combo?

well there is another optiion out there, weapon-r intakes are set up way different than the rest. i had one of their secret weapon air filter for almost a year now and that alone made a big difference over one of those throw in k&n types.
aside from that i just got the full secret weapon intake today and that thing put a full 3" intake i had for a while to shame hardcore
theres this site erz thats selling them for $235
a pop with a ram air kit free, the heat shield is lacking a little bit, but it does have one at least

I done a bit of it. I removed the down-leg portion & reused the clamp to hold a paint-can cap in place by slidding the cap's edge into the slot found in the rubber sleeve inside the clamp. But then, mine's a '99 & that was a different system than found in '96.

BTW: Has anyone considered doing a Fresh-Air System mod to their truck? It's far more effective at helping the engine have all the air it would ever want to breathe than even a K&N system could.
