On the 2.2L major engine work, including head work, cam, bore and stroke, pistons, etc., is more or less pointless, in fact it would be easier and probably cheaper just to upgrade the engine. This list includes the bolt on’s that will give you the increased power, their potential increase, brand options, and price’s for the parts.

Throttle Body Mod: Basic Junkyard performance

3-5hp $30-$100

56mm throttle from a 2.3l quad 4 eng (Our 2.2L has 52mm)
The 93' Grand Am throttle body with the 2.3L auto tranny works. The 2.3l TB is missing one spot for the FPR vac line, however you can tap it into the other small line with a Rubber Vac line connector. Removal of the current TB is straight forward and needs only basic hand tools. The 56MM TB just installs like the old one. Attach the Throttle Cable on before you try to bolt it back up, it makes it alot easier to hook up. Use 2-3 of the TB bolts that you took off the stock TB depending if you drilled out the hole or not. You will also use the stock throttle cable bracket.

Exhale Forcefully: The exhaust system

Typical aftermarket exhausts are cat-back systems, they come from the catalytic converter all the way to the tip. Headers work with the cat-back systems and help the whole exhaust system flow better. This results in more power and torque.

You will NOT need a header.
You need an up-pipe, it goes from the header, to where you want the turbo. This is mainly a custom project. No one really makes a "kit" anymore.

You will need a small turbo preferably w/ internal waste gate.
Custom piping
Blow-off-valve
Intercooler (it will make the turbo last longer)
FMU (fuel management unit)
MSD ignition

To get your piping bent I would use a coat hanger to get your bends then take it to a muffler shop. There is no direct write up for this but this is probably the easiest way to do it w/ no welder. The safest PSI to run is 6-8. You can run higher, but I wouldn’t w/o a build up.

Running a turbo will usually get you more power than a S/C.

The tps sensitivity mod is only for OBD1. '95 and before model years. Does it really do anything? If you could measure repeatably in the thousandths of a second, yes.

But I did it anyway.
