lifters and cam....what to get.

Since I will be doing some of the more expensive mods, and I'm getting close to 100k miles I have decided to go ahead and do the cam, lifters and rods.
I am not sure exactly which to get as there are several options. I want to maintain drivability for everyday use but I want some more "oomph" when I get on the pedal.

Can anyone give me any input on what the best solutions would be for what I want?

It'll be going on a '98 4.3, 2wd. I don't tow with it and never is offroad.

Well, the easy part is you only need a cam. Roller lifters don't require replacement just because you change cams. You obvously don't want a big cam either (over .500 lift).

The selection for balance shaft motors is limited. You're probably gonna want something with less than 270 advertised duration. There's a thread in here somewere with all the smaller cams listed. I'll do a search and see what I come up with.
