I was thinking of getting a hypertech thermostat, but i'm not sure whether to get a 160 degree or 180 degree. could someone help. My truck is a 2000 S-10 4.3l with a flowmaster 40 series muffler welded to the stock pipe, and a K&N FIPK intake and that's all for engine mods.
Would I benefit at all from a different thermostat? thanks for the help
I have a 170 from autozone, i like it. It was cheep too, and no codes.

Word is, a 160 will turn the light on. Most guys go 180.
Im running a 180 from advance autoparts. Dont but an expensive one from Hypertech, then have to wait on it for a couple of weeks when you can get the same product at your local parts store.

I run a 180, but I like the fail-safe models. They cost a bit more, but it's good peace of mind it won't lock closed if it does ever fail.

I have a 180 and have been running it for a couple years without any problems. A 160 will throw a code like Sparky said.

96s and 97s will run fine (and without a code) with a 160*, but the 98 and newer years should run a 180*.

'98-2000 should be fine on a 170 as well, as that is what i have, no codes.

Mileage will drop slightly, power will increase slightly. Those are the facts. The opinion is "How Much?" and I ain't gonna touch that one. ;)

I've got a 180 on my 1991 TBI and I haven't seen any mileage drop. Honestly. But, I have a different chip in the vehicle and it seemed to run better once I changed the thermostat.
