I just installed some Gibson headers in my 4.3 s10 blazer. I used talor wires, ngk plugs, felpro gaskets, heat sleeves for the wires and put some sealant on the gaskets so it can hold better. I installed a K&N so my truck could breathe better. Today I drove my truck to work and smelled something funny like when you go to the exhaust shop and they are welding. It smelled like metal getting burned or something similar to that. Some white smoke was coming from the bottom of my truck around where the accelerator and the brake are located or from my ac vents. It keeping throwing smoke for a about no more than 4mintues and then it went away but it still smelled funny. The heat sleeves are next to the headers but I don’t think that could be it because I checked it all the plugs seemed fine. Could it be that the headers are new? If anyone had similar problems please let me know or what it could be. Thanks a lot

Did you drive it after you had the headers installed? it is probably just your exhaust breaking in

If it is the first time you drove it after your headder install it is them getting broken in like mrmidnight said. It is probably the sealant you put in there. Make sure you tighten them up here soon, as they expand and contract they will require you to re-torque your bolts.

any money your smelling fiberglass burning from the sleeves or wires. Those gibson headers you have are tricky to route wire around them.If your using stock length wires i can tell you now your burning a wire if you don't believe me keep driving and watch for a misfire code.

i checked my truck today becuase i drove it again and it did the same thing but the wires are cool. They aren't burned and the truck still runs great so i doubt it will be a wire. Am going lift my truck up so i can see what could be the problem. If it is breaking in, how long does that smell last and would breathing it be bad. Thanks a lot

nah breathing it wouldnt be that bad, it will probably last a few days, thats how my muffler was, but i never put in a set of headers so it could be a week.

I live 25 miles from work so mine burned off next day (2 trips).

100 miles then ok? jk, it depends though on production it could be 2-3 days before it stops, I bet people look at your truck when they smell that nice new smell of metal curing huh?

so none of your stock length wires are touching any headers?

no not at all it was tricky to wire them so they wouldn't get burned and i put heat sleeves on them just incase. So my stock length are fine just have to use some wires with the curves ends certain places so the tips won't burn.
