I have found a motor that I am going to buy, regardless of CID, the guy only wants 100 bucks for it, so I cant lose. It came out of a fuel injected (read TPI) IROC camaro. I dont know my F Bodies very well, but I do know that you could either have a 305 TPI or a 350 TPI. The Intake manifold is gone, which is alright with me. A couple of questions. Is there some way to tell which engine it is without pulling the heads and measuring bore and stroke? Maybe a casting number? Could I put a 350 Crank in this 305 with any good results? Finally, were they HEI, or do I have to **** with finding some way for coil packs like on the lS series motors. I thought that they had distributors, but I havent spent too much time under a camaros hood. Also, what would an old set of Mickey Thompson cast Valve covers go for? Thanks in advance

Here's a pretty good list of casting numbers, try to find one on the block and match it up: http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm

They are HEI as far as I know. I know they changed from internal to external coil around 86. Does it have the edge-bolt valve covers on it? Most of the TPI's I've seen have centerbolt valve covers. I think the changeover year was 86 or 87? Some of you F-body guys chime in!

I think they were edge bolts. I was going to go with an external coil anyway. and It doesnt have a dist.
