Ive never really considered doing a V8 swap, but recently 2 motors a 305 and a 350 have come available to me. I haven't seen them yet, but im told they are in good condition. I don't know to much about V8 swapping and would like to know if this would be a good oppurtuitiy to start a swap?? Whats everything I need to know?? Time?? Effort?? All I know is my 4l60e tranny will bolt up to a 350 and I guess a 305, and I need different motor mounts??
first off, a few questions. !, are you driving a first gen or a seccond gen? What kind of budget are you on. Answer these, and we can talk about some possible options for you. I ahve done a great deal of research into the subject, my roommate and I are going to V8 our 1st gens sometime next spring.
BTW. You will need a new set of Headders, I dont think you will need motor mounts, but the possiblity is there, you will need a new radiator.
Cheepest motor mounts I have found

Here is a site for V8 conversion parts. The book isnt that great from what I have heard. More pictures than tech.

I have a 1st gen 93 4x4 s10 blazer 4.3 cpi. The budget will pretty much be blow as I go. As far as the usage Im just a highway runner no offroad =(. My plan is to get either motor and clean it up and get it ready so when the 4.3 takes a dive im ready to swap..

if you have a 4l60e then you will need a computer of some kind to control the trans.
Anyone know the legality of swaps in oregon? Seeing as how you are an on road, you are probably going to want a 700-R4 or the 4l60 over the TH 350 (same basic transmission, onlyno overdrive.) Depending on how legal it is, I would suggest you find a camaro with a TPi motor, and just get the drivetrain from it. (Engine, Trans, Computer, and Wirign harness. The budget is one of those things that can determine how fast you want to go. If you have the money, you can go fast and be reliable One thing you will need is a new oil pan, I've never seen one that you can buy, I have always seen them made. Ill look for some of my old links

U can make an oil pan out of 2 4.3 oil pans. Cut one in half and weld in a center section from the other one. Just make sure u cut and weld it so that the holes line up to the ones on the block. Summit sells one too but it costs over $200.

I would go for a 350 over a 305 any day.
