My freind has a 2002 Blazer Xtreme, and a few weeks after he bought it, the SES light came on, we were going to take it to autozone to see what the code was, but someone told us that you cant do that because itll void the warrenty. Is this true? Hes kinda pissed right now because he has to pay a $100 dollar service charge to get a freakin thermostat replaced

Very false. You or anybody can read the codes anytime, anywhere.

If the Blazer was still on warranty, why did he have to pay anything? Did the dealer claim that the bad thermostat was a normal wear item? If the Blazer wasn't on warranty any longer, why worry about whether having AutoZone read the code would void anything?
Stop listening to the person that said reading the code would void the warrenty.
