At what rpm at WOT should the 1-2 shift occur in a 700-r4? Mine shifts at 4400 and then drops to 2800 rpm in 2nd. How can i increase the rpm it shifts at so that the rpm won't drop so far below peak horsepower (4000 rpm)? It has a throttle-valve cable with the automatic adjuster so i can't finetune it like my '87 sentra.

At WOT you want the TV cable to be tight, no slack. That should do it.
But, why not manual shift?

A better converter with more stall would help keep the engine in it's power curve during shifts. And if your wanting it to hold the RPM's longer just shift it manualy like Sparky said.

a shift kit would also help

Servo servo servo..Get a corvette style servo billet preferably. You will notice a difference.

All right. Whats the redline on a 89 4.3 with stock cam and springs?

It'll fall off somewhere between 4500 and 5000. Less with weak springs.
It's a self imposed redline so it ain't like you're gonna blow it. Unless that's what you're trying to do.......

So when the valves start to float they won't get cozy with the piston? Will stiffer valve springs help once i do some airflow mods to increase the horsepower peak or do i need a new cam too?

I'm sure if you tried really hard they could.Mine is a stock CPI cam with 1.6 ratio. That puts me over .450 lift and they ain't hit yet. And I'm pretty ruthless on my burnouts.
I floated real bad once. Got through the burnout and had a very dead hole. Thought I had done it in. Pulled up to the line and by the time I launched it was back. Z-28 springs. 'bout 110 lbs. closed pressure. Nothing fancy. It hit over 6000 on that burnout.

Mine goes to 5500 dead stock but loses tons of power after 5000.

i have a 2.2 and mine shifts at 6100 when i pin it to the floor, is there anything wrong with that??? if so how can i fix it. like it shifts kinda hard and takes too long , i loose alot of time when its pinned, i usually have to back off the gas and let it shift then go. not sure tho.
