I'm planning on getting full length Heddmans at some point. Wondering what would be a good size pipe to use for the y pipe? I'll be keeping the stock setup cat back at first, so I'll have to keep that in mind.

isnt that the stock pipe size for the S10s. i was at flowmasters site cause everyone seems to running the 40 series so i checked them out and the ones that were for the S10s were all 2.5" Sorry to steal on your thread Sub but which one of three 40 series do you guys have, the standard, super, or delta?
(still laughing at MC Hammer up there.)

It's hammer time lol.I was bored.Anyway I think the stock is 2 inch or 2 1/4.I could be wrong but much larger than 2 1/2 would not be beneficial. There just isn't enough hp/tq to support it.

I believe my stock exhaust cat back is 2-1/2. As far as the y pipe though, I think the header collectors are 1-3/4, so I dunno if I should do 1-3/4 and then up to 2-1/2 when they join, or what.
Why not run 2 pipes into a 2 in 1 out flowmaster, then you dont have the power robbing of a y pipe, and you can run a single outlet still. Thats how my suburban is, 2 2.5 inch pipes into a flomaster 50 then a 3 inch out, sounds mean as hell, though it is a bigblock

I gotta keep the cat though, because emissions, and the 02 sensors.

Have the pipes size match the header collectors and then have it be 2.5" when merged. As for the muffler use the standard or super, the delta sucks.

I heard a set of dual super 40's saturday night on a 98 Trans Am that sounded awesome. And they do sound different than the regular 40's do because I knew what his sounded like with the old ones on.He said he noticed a substantial amount of power over the regular 40's too.He is running a custom mandrel bent 2 1/2 dual exhasut with no cats and super 40's and it sounds mean as hell.It just made me super jealous I didn't have anything with some ponies under the hood.....for now!!

If you don't mind giving up a tad on the bottom (or have a stall converter) go ahead and go 3". Above 4000 rpm's it'll really shine.

I was kinda considering 3" but still not real sure on the y pipe. I guess just collector size (1-3/4) off both headers, then join those into one 3". Then I'll probably just run that to the cat ( Ill have to get a 3" one at some point) and then straight out the back of the truck, no muffler.
hey guys since we are already on this topic, i thought i would ask too, on my 200 s-10 i was ground the **** outta my y-pipe and now it has a huge hole in it, sometimes i can hear it over the supercharger,, but what would be a good size to go with, i was think 3" straight back from my headers, but i heard if i got over 2.5" my truck is just gonna have no bottom end, how big of a diff will it really make, from my stock size to 3"
thx in advance

The "no bottom end" story is part fact, but mostly fiction. What it will do is take away a small bit of torque below 2500 rpm's. But, a stall converter or better gears overcomes this insignificant loss.
The gain over 2500 far outweighs any loss IMO. Heck, I run 2 1/2" true duals on mine.
wow tru duals, i was told that it would sound like **** and run like **** if i were to do that, well is there anyone who makes an aftermarket y-pipe for our trucks, i want one the runs OVER my crossmemeber instead of hangin under it

Hey sparky do u have an H or X pipe in your duals? Where can i get headers for my 4.3 I was thinking of just getting some cheap SBC headers and chopping the front tube off and bending any pipes that get in the way of anything. Would that work?

I don't use an x or h pipe (although I should, just ain't gotten to it). Hedman makes full length headers for ours. Last time I ckd. I think they were $149. Here's a couple of pics. I've got a sound clip if I can ever get it loaded.
