View Full Version : Learned Something New/Possible salvage parts
A few of you may have known this, but I just learned it recently. The mail trucks pictured below are actually built off on an S10 Chassis with a 2.5l Iron Duke motor for power. They have a different Vin number than a normal 2.5 S10, but yeah, thought that was kind of a cool litle fact. Who else wants to smallblock one now?

WoW. A 2.5 huh? I always did like those motors. Something about a 4" piston in a short stroke 4 banger.........
Hopped one up once. Pretty impressive for a pushrod 4 banger.
Figured you would have known that sparky. Holy crap, did I teach the great sparky something? :)

I try and learn a bit more every day. So, yup, picked something up there.
Now, if I could just work on this memory..........

Yea, maybe the mail would get here faster... nah, they'd still be fartin around, waitin 'til 4 or 5pm to deliver it.

They do have a special 'postal' version of the 700R4/4L60s I found out. Feel free to pick on that one at will =)

Seen one some years ago in a used-car lot near my unk's. Painted, slammed, chopped too (I think). Thinkin' of it reminds me of Trabant 600s with their awkward looks, along with a few worked-over Trabs I saw posted on a J-body site. Hmmm... I've seen custom vans (Cool), and I've seen Pro-Street cars (Cool too). I've even seen a few Pro-Street custom vans (Too cool). Heck, I've even seen the Ford SuperVan 2 (Re: Pro-Stock van. Radi-cool!). And I know there hafta been more than a few retired Jeep DJs (Postal Jeeps) reworked into 4-wheelers (They came only in 2WD w/ a tube straight-axle in front). Knew about the S-10 chassis sharin' on the on the vans for a long while now. But with this new interest in them I see here, and the suggestions I just dropped, who's willin' to try to build somethin' way too-cool?

I'm pretty sure Scion has been looking at our US mail trucks for inspiration.

Should build a postal truck as a dragger. Keep it stock appearing, that would F with people.
Damn mini trucker side.

A co-worker got all pissy when I started calling his Silver Scion Box thingy a Toaster. Picture this, a Silver Box Scion, a scaffolding wing to simylate a lever and 2 peices of fiberglass made toast sticking out the roof. Just put a Toastmaster decal on the side. Viola! Breakfast on wheels. hehehe

If they are like the ones here in Canada they will be aluminum bodies and light. Been thinking of one for awhile but dont admit it to very many people. My ex girlfriend thought i was nuts.

Hey, it would be the ultimate sleeper. Keep it all stock looking and some really quiet mufflers. Stuff the biggest fu**in engine you can shoe horn in and go for a nice cruise eating ricers and spitting out fart pipes all the way.

Mik, I hear ya on those Scions. They look like amusement park narrow-gauge railway locomotives to me (Heh-heh-heh)! Hey guys, another idea just hit me. Notice how the mail van has a right-hand drive to it. Now from what I remember the only difference in the steering system is the steering box was redesigned to mount on the right, and just swapped sides with the idler arm. At least that's how it was on the DJs. Now, can you imagine doing a "student driver" thing with two columns and a center-mounted gauge cluster? Let's see the ricers, F'n'f-ers & "trenders" do that with their 'Yota toasters! Ha!
