View Full Version : cams cams cams
its getting on into winter and seeing how i gots lottsa werk to do on the MG just maybe she needs a new cam.been lookin around and im impressed with the selection of cams for a 4.3.im kinda lookin for a mild midrange setup and i think comp cam has it.a friends asked me why a mild cam?i wanna to be ableto go down the road without having to own stock in standard oil company.ya know,a BEER B Q,wood be fun next summer an maybe swap some ideas
What year? I like my comp 260AHR, it gets better fuel economy for me than stock. It moves the power band up a little, but not so much that it has no torque off idle. It also has a smooth idle, and is easy to live with everyday.

GM performance parts has some really good cams to.I bought this one for my rebuilt engine and have installed it in to one other TBI engine. It makes great power but still maintains a decent idle.I think it has a great lift and lobe centerline.Good all around cam for street performance. Here is the specs and part number for the one I have.It only works for non balance shaft blocks.Which most of the TBI engine are. There are a few TBI blocks that have a balance shaft but not many.If your timing cover looks like a standard smallblock timing cover than you don't have a balance shaft. 10134321 Hydraulic Roller Tappet
This hydraulic roller tappet is a high performance street and marine cam for 4.3L even-fire engines. Use only with roller tappet block on engines without balance shaft. The duration at lash point in degrees (intake/exhaust) is 321/316; duration at .050" tappet lift (intake/exhaust) is 224/224; and maximum lift with 1.5:1 rocker ratio (intake/exhaust) is 450/460. Lobe centerline is 112 degrees
these cams kinda sound what im lookin for.i dont need a bunch of lift, just enuff to wake it up some
the gm cams might not work for you, it depends on what year truck you have, balance shaft or non balance shaft? cam selection for a non-balance shaft is much better

my cam has close to the same specs as rat. i like it. big improvement over stock and a bit better fuel econ if you can keep your foot off of it. i didn't feel that i lost any low end if anything i think i gained some but that may be my gears kickin in on that.

i didn't feel that i lost any low end if anything i think i gained some but that may be my gears kickin in on that.I'm sure your gears had a lot to do with it lol.If his is TBI 9 chances out of 10 it is non balance shaft so he shouldn't have anything to worry about there.I think either one of the cams mention would be good cams. The 260 has a real nice profile and Comp is a prooven performer. The GMPP cam I can vouch for.It is one very nice cam.It doesn't hurt your bottom end much at all.You will notice again in the entire power band.So in my opinion you won'y be wrong with either one.
i really wish mine was a non-balance shaft. theres alot more cam options and some of the GMPP cams look like they would work quite well with stock heads and a turbo/supercharger
my engine is a 94 with tbi,im not sure aout the balance shaft, never really took that into consideration.i havent found too many cams or any other performance parts
