Hello all.

I'm new to this forum and hope I can find some answers from the knowledgable folks here to my questions regarding my '93 S-10 Blazer 2WD, 4.3L, Vortec CPI, Automatic,248K miles, stock with just a few add ons.

I'm having run problems which I've done some repairs but still stuck.

It is hesitating and rough running when running from a smooth idle. The hesitation and sputtering/rough running continues unless I increase throttle to a point that the problem ceases and it's as if the truck wants to run correctly. I can drop it down to second, keeping the revs up and runs ok, but once I back of the throttle, same thing happens.

I've just recently replaced the expensive electronic EGR valve for the 4th time. I read somewhere else on the board about eliminating the EGR valve, if someone can point me to discussion on making the mod I would appreciate it.

I had run it for about 2K miles with the SES light on because of the bad EGR valve, ( I know, not a good thing to do but I am on a disability income and I need to pay the rent ). I've since reset the ECM, no SES showing now.

Replaced the distributor cap and rotor. The cap had a lot of corrosion due to the salt air where I live. Parts of the inside of the distributor had some rust which I've cleaned as best I can without pulling the distributor.

New fuel filter, new fuel pump and fuel pump housing 12K mikes ago. ( Check the electrical connector on the housing when you drop the tank and change fuel pump...had a shorted connector I didn't see the first time I dropped the tank.

New air filter.

I haven't checked the plugs yet, they're fairly new.

No codes set in ECM after clearing when the EGR valve was replaced. The way it acts, it's as if there is a intermittent problem but overall the problem is continual. This may be a coincidence but the problems started after one morning when first driving, the electrical system shut down for a few seconds then came back. It was enough to dump the cd/radio programming as well as the clock. It's never done that again.

Gas mileage has gone down the crapper. Runs fine on 87 octane but much better on 92.

I would sure appreciate any suggestions on what/where to look or start to solve the problem.

Thanks for reading this.

start with checking the plugs. they could be fouled maybe even broken. hell, its easy to do and could safe you buying even more expensive parts

Sounds like it is in the ignition somewhere. As the dwell changes with the RPM, it will cause the speed at which the spark is delivered. Id maybe say somewhere in the coil possibly, but the wires and plugs are a good place to start. Could be the rust in the distributor. Sounds like your old cap was cracked. Shouldnt have any moisture under the cap at all. That could be the cause of your problems. Im no expert, just my limited experience speaking

Thanks for the suggestions Viper... and T-Man.

I was going to change the plug wires anyway, it's been over 100K miles since they were done.
I'll check the plugs and since they're out, change them. This problem seemed to come on suddenly yet it has gotten worse as the few miles run time.

I am curious how the moisture got in the distributor also, the amount of rust seems excessive even for the rainy area hee in the Seattle area. I'll check this out also once I've changed the wires and plugs.

Thanks again for your responses.
