Turn downs or big ass tail pipes? Ive got a turndown on my flow40 right now (no cat) and it sounds MEAN!!! But i want opinions on how it will sound if i do a "Y" off the muffler into 2.5" pipes and then some long 3" boom tubes out to the rear.
Thanks

Turn downs for me.

It is basically comes down to prefrence.I think a turn down is louder because it echoes under the truck bed.But a tail pipe will have more dynamic sound because it throws the sound out the back.
Id say turndown, or gt the best of both worlds like me. Ive got a turndown angled out infront of the back tire

personally i like turndowns. i think tailpipes make some smaller engines sound to "raspy"

especially if the tips are rolled. I like the "GT" or "super truck" were it ducks out infront of the rear wheel

I prefer turndowns, makes the truck rumble when i turn it off and the girls, well you know

ive got a 2 1/2 inch turndown on my 2.2 on a flowmaster series 40 delta force and gutted cat. ive tried running all the way out but nothing sounds as mean as a turndown right past the back of the cab.

I like mine running out the back.
Check the Vid out to hear how it sounds.
This is with a full dual 3in exhaust with 3 in Dynomax Ultraflows all the way at the back.

I don't like the FM40's just for the fact that they can drone on the highway, that is if you do a lot of highway driving. I have a magnflow muffler just replacing my stock muffler and I removed the resanator. That made a nice deep sound with out it being obnoxious and with my other mods I got a little more power out of it.

OHHH OHHH ANOTHR 400 GUY!! Now I really want you to stick around. Did you bore at all, or just stroke for the 406. Ohhh boy oh boy oh boy. (If i had a tail, it would sure as **** be wagging)

A .030 over 400 is a 406. Bore ends up being 4.155.

Just got my muffler cut off today, and I'd have to vote straight pipe. It sounds good with a 4.3

Now, I'm with Sub. BUT, most of us can't get away with that.

Ya, we're lucky here in that aspect. They don't care what you do, as long as you pass emissions.

Just took a video of the exhaust sound, so I htought I'd post the video. Just scroll to the bottom of the page, and click the FREE button. Then scroll to the bottom of the new page, and wait for the timer, then download the movie. Not dialup friendly, its about 8 meg.

What muffler is on it? Sounds good. Would like to hear it going down the road.

Thanks man. That's no muffler at all. Fully stock exhaust, with no muffler. Ya, I wish I could hear it driving by too, but that's hard to do unless I let someone else drive it :D
You should upload to streetfire.net you can upload like 80 meg vids, and you dont have to go through all that song and dance about dwonloading the right hting

Would sound ten times better with a good muffler on there, sounds kind of ratty with no muffler at all if you ask me.
Here is how my s10 sounded the last time the motor was in the truck, comp 270ahr cam, stock manifolds, stock y pipe, no cat, 2.5" spintech pro street single exhaust.

Seriously though. I would steal the heads, intake, throttlebody and injection system off of one of those or a BMW 2.8 if they weren't odd ball 55deg designs!
