axles

i need new axles for my truck and was wondering for suggestions? just go with some from the junkyard or go new? and is there any difference from 2wd to 4wd or any of the different gear ratios. i have a 3.42 open rearend...

A 2wd will have shorter axles than a 4wd will.And late models past 87 I think have 28 splines were the older ones were 26 if I remember correctly.Been a long day and my mind is mush.

also are extreme pickup axles the same as 4x4's or still the shorter axle?

1982-2002 S-10 2WD Axles are 26 3/4 Inches long and either 26 or 28 spline. and the 4WD is 29 inches long. thanks to Moser Engineering for that tidbit of info. i have the book right in front of my if you need any other rear Specs.
