View Full Version : big wheels with no tires
I know I am gonna catch flack on this, but I just want to know. Is anyone as sick of big wheels and rubberband tires as I am? This is just my opinion. Sorry if this pisses someone off. I personally like nothing bigger than an 18 on an s truck

big wheels are nice.....but as long as they're not overdone.....22"+ is jsut too big IMO 20s are acceptable

i agree with the not too big on an s-truck....too small of a truck for a big rim

yes, very true.....big rims don't fit too well on an s10, in fact won't a 20" rim rub out front on a truck lowered 2/3 or more??

18" is the limit. If you've got something bigger then your not trying to look good your just trying to outdo someone. Plus the negtive effects like longer braking, slower e.t's and stuff just don't make them worth it.

I have 17s now and I think they are perfect for the s-series pick ups and 18s on a s-series SUV.

I think it's a dumb trend. Oh wow who can put the biggest rims on their vehicle. Trendy vehicles based on shock value never last.

What really blows me away is how much they're willing to pay. Most of 'em I see the wheels and tires are worth more than the vehicle.
I don't how true it is, but i've heard the insurance companeys and DOT or going to start cracking down on the oversized wheels because of safty issues.
but for those of you who don't know...
larger wheel severly affect not only your brakeing ,but also you milage, drivetrain life, steering, and I have seen a 22 rim blow apart because of it was cracked. after talking with severale tire guys they told me it was very common for the aftermarket oversized rims to crack.
It's a new era for automobils and performance and driveabilty is becomeing just as important as looks. Most of the s-10 owners are young and have yet to relize with age comes better money and better cars. You want to keep your truck that's fine, but most of you will end up tradeing up to bigger truck down the line. This huge rim fad will date your truck and in the long run make it less valuable and harder to sell down the road. Choose your rims and assesorys carefully. you never want to date your investment to particular period of time with an exspensive accesory.
remeber guys +2 is all a gms stock steering and stock brakes can handle. So before you say "it's only going to cost a couple gran for the rims I want". Think about how much the mods to get the rims on your truck saftly will cost.

well i guess i'll be the 1st to disagree since i have 20s on my bagged dime. with tires only cost me 1200 new. running 255/35 goodyears (lasted longer than a year so far so dont wanna hear it lol). rides exceptionally well even with the lt1.
my other dime i recently sold was bagged and massively bodydropped rolling on 18s

please don't
just my opinion.
as far as i am concerned, 20's are fine, if they have enough tire on it. I like the 20's on the ss trucks, because they have enough tire on them. I just think that 20's + are just too gawdy for me.

The ss came stock with 20"s.. right... So that truck could probally handel a 22" without major modification and still have plenty of tire.
I don't care for the huge wheel gawdy aftermarket look myself. It just dosn't flow well with most trucks. I really don't even thinck the stock 20" rims on the dodge or chevy flow with the trucks, but that's just me i guess.
as people learn more and as these truck shows like "Trucks" on spike debunk the myths surounding supension and brakeing, i exspect to see the larger wheels reserved for trailer queens and parade trucks. I'm already seeing the decline of intrest in the larger wheels around here. possibly due to the lack of good paying jobs in this area. That's not stoping people from buying rims and building custom rides, they just don't seem intrested in paying high prices from a rim that's not pratical to run on an everyday driver.

I think it varies from truck to truck...smaller trucks need smaller wheels in order to keep proportions right...same goes to say with legnth, a longer truck needs a little bit of a bigger wheen IMO
