what would be the best way to make my 4 cylinder sound the best, a cherry bomb ($20) a nice muffler flowmaster($80) or what. and if i install these should i cut the cat converters off and run a straight pipe to the back with a muffler or leave them on. i want it to be pretty loud but not annoying loud. any suggestion would be aprecitated i have about $150 but not really willing to buy cat-back exhaust unless it makes it sound incredible.

I always liked the sound of Flowmasters, but they really don't flow that well. Go with a straight thru design muffler, as opposed to a chambered one. Dynomax, Magnaflow... there's a bunch of em out there.

I had a flowmaster on my 4cyl it sounded good on the lowend but when it reached high rpms it sounded a little closer to a ricer, but still american

The best way to make a 4 cylinder sound better is either 2 or 4 more cylinders lol J/K fellas.I heard a 4 banger S10 this past weekend with a Magnaflow muffler with a down pipe that sounder pretty good all things considered.

LOL, is that Leave it to Beaver you're whistling?

Cut out the cat and muffler if you can. Just cut out my muffler and I love it, I wish I could de-cat it too, but no can do.

I ain't gonna say ya or nay that's up to you Lil.I will say that my S10 or my TA have cats on them. Some will say that losing the cat makes no real difference in power from my experience I will disagree.I not long ago attempted installing a cat on my S10 just to be eco friendly...well no just to see what kind of difference it would make. This was a new converter not a "high flow" but just a oem replacement.I noticed two things right off.It didn't sound anywhere close to as good as with out the cat and it choked power away from around 2500rpm up.A noticeable loss of power that I just didn't wanna give up.So off it came and thats the way it will stay. And there is no way converters will go on my TA.I mean anyway you look at it they are a restriction in the exhaust. You won't see them on a top fuel drag car,a Nextel cup car,Formula One car,or basically on any professional high performance racing vehicle. They might be mandated in some racing classes but very few of them.I don't think everyone should rip off their converters at all they are there for a reason. My wifes car still has a cat lol.But you do what ya want bro I just thought I would give ya my opinion.

Somehting that no one has addressed yet...if you cut the cat off of a 2000, wont you throw a code wth your downstream o2 sensor?

Maximus

The only o2 sensor that would be affected is the one after the cat.But that can be took care of with a O2 simulator. It doesn't control fuel distribution anyway.

Ok now you got me.... What ia a O2 simulator and where do you get one??

Maximus

It basically a resistor that plugs in to were the o2 sensor would be making the ecm think it's still there operating fine.In all reality you could do it yourself cheaper with the right resistor.

I bought one of them so called resistors for the intake sensor that is supposed to make the ecm think it is cold outside and all that happened is the check engine light came on.

i got a 4 banger 98 s10 pickup, and i have a magnaflow muffler on my truc kand cold air intake and its sounds perfect, not to loud but not quiet, no rice at all

yeah i just put a cold air intake on mine and a cherry bomb (directly replaced the muffler) and mine sounds great it only costed about $60 for everything. its got a very nice tone at idle and all you can hear once you get on it is the sound of the cold air intake. you gotta hear one to know what im talking about. go on ebay and get a cold air intake for $40 and stop by your local auto zone and pick up a cherry bomb for like$20 and your set.
