Does anyone know of a front axle conversion from IFS to a solid front axle on s-10's or Jimmy's.? I want to lift the truck pretty high and get more axle travel than I can get from the IFS. I looked at different suspension lifts, and they seemed to limit amount of travel due to design. Have any ideas?????

My buddy paul took the rear leafs off of an S10, and a small dana out of a Jeep cherokee to do his SAS. He is on 33's now and could clear 38's with some body mods. Here are some pics.

Thank you. The driveshaft is in the back seat. It vibrates at high speed. Good eyes.

Well, you will need to decide whether you want to go with Leaf Springs or Coils. Coils will give you lots of articulation, but are much more complicated than leaf springs. Also sometimes wobble or torque-steer is associated with coil sprung suspension (Jeep Cherokees and Jeep TJ's).

When you are searching for a front axle, you’ll want to find something with the differential on the left-hand side, otherwise your transfer case wont match up (assuming that you will be keeping stock NP 231 or NP 207.) One possibility is a Dana 30 from an '87 - '95 Jeep Wrangler. On these, the pinion yoke and transfer case yokes are the same, brake lines adapt easily and steering is a direct bolt on. Any Jeep Wrangler pitman arm will bolt on to the S-10's steering box. The Dana 44 is also a great choice for an axle. You can find the most suitable ones in '66 - '77 Ford Broncos and late '70s and early '80's Wagoneers. Note that the Wagoneer axle has a 6-lug pattern.

If you only plan to run 33s, your GM 10-Bolt rear will be fine, but tires sizes over that and hard core wheeling will cause axle shafts to snap and wheel bearings to be eaten up.

As far as Springs, the most popular choices are springs from Wranglers, CJ's, full-size vans, Dodge Dakotas, and S-10's.

Just a few tips, get pretty proficient at welding, or find someone to weld for you. Plan everything out and don’t start until you have everything you need.
