Apples to oranges, if you want to go with an 8, then that's what I'll step up with as well.
Wouldn't want you cryin' about being beat by a 6.
Lol!
I think a blow 6 verus a n/a 8 is fair.

Say did you mean G&Gs that race thier trucks? I do race mine! Say if thier was enough in our area we all could meet at Mo-Kan in the spring. And then kick some RICER BUTT!

All the tracks around here are closed for the season. It's the off season when everyone starts building or rebuilding for spring.I am hoping I will have my 350 in and running great by spring.

Depends on tons of varaibles. I still haven't gotton all the potential out of my 6 yet, and even then I don't expect much. But we'll see.
I'd be happy to race for fun anytime. I look forward to see your v8 setup too. :D

Christmas break we'll get it done.

When I first bought my S10 a kid i went to school with sold me a Caddy 527, or whatever the huge cubic inch motor was they had. I didnt know what to do with it, because I didnt know crap about motors, all I knew was that I wanted to do a SBC swap. Found out later it wouldnt have fit without moving the firewall back several inches.

It can be done.. there is a guy here in Manhattan that has a BBC in his S10 and the firewall is moved about 1-1.5"s but you can't tell at all that he really moved it.
Who is it? Whats the truck look like? Is it ever out at midwest dragstrip?

12-06-05, 07:30 PM
Its a teenage kid. I would prolly have to ask a couple of friends.. Its a white ext cab 1st gen. looks damn near bone stock other then a cowl hood and Iroc wheels and a blazer bumper and duals..
He in highschool still? Sorry to be so nosy, but im still pretty wired there in manhattan. I can find people.

Not sure if he is in HS but I know he is no older then 19...
you don't have to move the firewall at all for a big block. I cut the firewall a little on my 95 just for room for the motor plate.
Not a true "drag" truck, or even an "S10" for that matter but it gets driven less than 3K a year:

"On my way to 12.5 @ 106 in '04"
Have to get this installed over the winter since it has been on my shelf for almost two years now :(. Shooting for 11's on a stock engine that has never had the valve covers off...

"PTE "stealth" big shaft 70MM turbocharger, capable of supporting 700 HP. The "whistle" from this will end my "sleeper" days :(..."
thats bad ass. Ive been building hot rod s10s for a long time, and have never got my hands on a cyclone or typhoon, but ive always wanted to. what size turbo is stock on these? how does the 4.3 differ internally from a regular 4.3?
Thanks, the pic above was when I was still running my DOT steet tires. I still managed to cut 1.7 60' times even though they were over 5 years old. I have drag radials on all four now and touch 1.6's occasionally. Folks at the track always comment how violent it leaves the line especially after I drive around the water box. But that's nothing compared to what I experience on the street. It's pretty hard to hang with a vehicle that does 0-60 in four seconds if you're in a car that can't put the power to the ground.
Stock turbo is a Mitsubishi TD06-17C/8cm2 that flows 550 CFM through a Garrett water to air intercooler. Stock boost is 1 bar or 14.7 psi this nets 280 HP @ 4400 RPM and 350 ft/lbs @ 3600 RPM. I have an afermarket chip so that I can run up to 24 psi. However, the stock turbo is inefficient at that psi so, I limit my passes at the track to 20 pounds.
Sytys came with the "Z" VIN motor that has LB4 heads, not exactly the best at keeping detonation in check even with a 8.35:1 CR... Some folks bolt on the L35 heads as they are a direct bolt on. You can do Vortech but, is requires quite a bit of work. The only differences between a syty shortblock and a NA one are the head gaskets, hypereutectic pistons and modular iron caps. Everything else is standard NA stuff.
thanks for the info. I'm thinking of making my own with a reg cab 4 wheel drive 93 s10. does the syclone have torsion bar front end? also how does the all wheel drive system differ from a 4 wd setup other than no low range?

Man I wish I had a damn Sy or Ty. They are just gorgeous.. Have anymore pics of your truck?
Yup sytys have the HEAVY torsion bar setup. With regards to the differences between 4WD and AWD it is covered here (http://forums.s-series.org/viewtopic.php?t=30825&highlight=) (sorry for the dead links, they got hosed when the BB got restructured).
Thanks for the props, you can see my mods here (http://www.sytyarchives.com/database/viewuser.php?id=147) and my gallery here (http://www.centergc.org/images/misc/Mike/gallery/syclone2932).

12-18-05, 11:19 PM
Sy, you spool that up before you launch or you launching flatfooted?
Nope brake engine torque the motor and leave the line with 5-7 psi on tap. One foot holding the brakes and the other on the gas. Some like to leave with 10 psi or more but my brakes won't hold much over 7 psi and I get lots of wheel spin to boot. No "turbo lag" for me.
I just remembred that my bud hosted a bunch of the vids from our Pittsburgh meet back in '04. You can see them here (http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=20576) if you're interested...
