My mom has decided to get me all new speakers and a head unit for christmas (but im not supposed to know). my question is, im getting pioneer speakers all around and are they direct hookups to the factory wiring or will i need wire crimps or anything? i just wanted to know if i needed to buy anything special for the installation prior to christmas day, because im installing them before we go to my aunts house 3 hours away. thanks

um not they wont directly connect. you will have to splice them

Yep what he said. All factories put on them stupid clips at the end of there speakers and speaker wire. So just cut them off and add a lil bit a wire to give you room to work and then put some female connectors.
butt splices is what ive always called them. remember, the darker of the two wires is ususally the negative. that or they indicate it with a black bar on the insulation

Just get a hanes or a chiltons and it tells you the exact wire for what.

you could just cut off the plug on the speaker and add a lead to plug into your new speakers. or go with Tman and butt splice/connect them together

i think im gonna go for the butt splice connectors. i have a diagram that i found somewhere online a while ago that has the color codes so that wont be a problem
What speakers are you guys putting in the back. I still have the stock ones and they are dead. I have 1996 GMC Sonoma ext cab...

^^^^ drives a standard cab 96 there is no speakers in the back of it.. LOL But they should be either 4X10s or 4X6s
I was wondering what other choises I have. The are a weard size. Will 6x9 fit?
I believe they use 4x6's in the back of the x cab. The first gen std cabs have a 4x10's (crap for sound) If you can, get a set of 6" speakers and make some sort of an adaptor. You will get a much better sound out of it.

With my 1st gen I had like yours Tommy when I worked for Audio Junction in JC we put a two sets of 4" infinity kappas on a adapter plate we made with bass blockers and it was so clean sounding. And for the 4X6 either get a 4X6 plate or make a plate and put a 5 1/4. A round speaker will almost always sound better then a oval speaker.
I went to highschool with Thornboroughs son. Audio Junction is the shiot though.

( the stock grill ) Or will I have to cut it out and use a grill that comes with speaker. I would like to keep the stock look if I can. Thanks

It should be no different then running a 4X6 But I would honestly suggest a set of infinity 4X6 kappa plates.. They are really nice and no modding to install it. http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=15371
Thanks man.... I'll get them.
