I just read an article that mentioned that most manufacturers select tires to help them achieve epa standars for thier vehicles, and most consumers purchase tires that don't perform as well (at least in terms of mileage).

Is there a way to find out what tires came stock on our dimes from the factory? Could a dealer tell me?

Regular S10's came with Uniroyal Tiger Paws, ZQ8's came with Goodyear Eagle GA's, and ZR2's came with BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A's(truck) or Long Trail T/A's(blazer)

Maybe the article mentioned the other reason the manufactures selected the tires. Cost. Not cost to you to replace them, but cost to them to install them. The tires they put on are adequate to do the job. They will last about 40,000 miles if you keep them properly inflated, and properly rotated. Just long enough to exceed the warranty period and not piss ya off.

Not everybody likes the way the factory rubber handles or performs. Tire selection is all personal choice. I seriously doubt you will notice any lose in mpg with your new tires, unless you go with mud tires.

Tried that with the Uniroyals. They didn't make it 27,000. Horrible tire provided to GM by way of lowest bidder contract. Nothing more.

My tiger paws lasted just long enough for me to discover the joy of a brake stand. The cords that they use in there are pretty though, especially when they are puked onto the mainstreet and you have to change tires in the middle of a cloud of smoke in the middle of the street so you can get home
