Good day all; I am new here. I am curious as to whether anyone here is going thru this problem as I am going thru. This engine rattle , or spark knock, is what I call it. Only happens at certain rpm levels. Mainly at around 1000 to 2000 rpm.
I was told it might be the tension belt kit? anyway it is driving me a little crazy, and thats not too much driving, lol. My 4.3 has 80,000 on it I have changed plugs to the platinum ones and have changed wires also, thinking it was a spark prob. Any ideas?
Thanks

Bosch Platinums? If so, they aren't all that great. Those plugs are mainly geared for the high rpm 4 banger import engines. The good 'ol AC Delcos or NGK's are best.
As far as your knocking goes, I was having problems as well but in higher RPM ranges.
Is your MAF clean? If you have a K&N filter or something else that has oil on the filter, that oil tends to coat on the elements on the MAF and is said to cause a few issues.

Yes they are the plugs in queston, and yes I have a K &N filter also, but --- This knocking was happening long beore I changed to these things. I do know that GM had a tsb on the problem once long ago. I read that the noise is from a pully tensioner that wears out, or something. The cost to repair the tensioner kit is quite expensive. I was hoping someone in here could tell me they were full of s### and it would be repairable in a different way.
Thanks for the input.

Dude, get out of those bosches as fast as possible, the prongs on them tend to break off into the cylinder, and then you will have more problems than knocking brother.

The bulletin addresses a knock/rattle between 1800 and 2200 rpms. It's not a reliability issue so it's not something you have to do.
It is a tensioner that goes inside the timing cover. The manual calls for removing the oil pan (not necessary) to perform the job therefore the high labor cost.
I wouldn't sweat it.

Finally I am back from vacation. Sorry for not communicating.
I was worried that this knock may cause the fuel mileage to drop, or may cause internal damage to the engine. So---- I need to get rid of my spark plugs eh?
Is there a good brand to get, And is there a better filter for my backyard box than my K&N one?

Delco or NGK on the plugs.
The FRAM Air Hog on the filter.

COOL Thanks. I wish I had asked before I bought the other plugs, and filter.
Oh well, live and learn again I guess.
