My 03 has an RDS headunit and I want to change to a Kenwood. Best Buy told me that the wiring harness they have will work. I have heard the horror stories about the airbags in Cavaliers blowing out. I don't want to keep the stock headunit as it cuts bass output at high volume to protect the weak factory speakers. This is also, so when I get an amp and sub, I can use RCA cables instead of splicing the wires.

Is there a question hidden in there somewhere? Go for it Indigo!

Yes there is a question in there. I got my Kenwood components put in today, and they sound great, so instead of the headunit, I'm going to start saving for the sub and amp.

I had the same system in my s10 before I upgraded, yes you do have to get the 60 dollar harness, go to circuit city to get it though, they have the one where you don't have to relocate to deck, I think crutchfield has it too

I contacted a company down in Florida that manufactures the dash kits, and the wire harnesses for all vehicles Metra and was told that the rds system in the s-10 does not hook up to the computer as the true rds does. It appears to me that GM uses the rds radio but not the hook up. I bought my kits right thru them and hooked up my system with no probs. Heres the number, call them yourself to be at ease. Thanks guys. After hearing my components, I think I'm gonna put the cash towards a sub and amp first. The stock headunit actually sounds good. I remember all this for down the line though.
