Got my truck painted about two weeks ago. To start off with it they charged me for a clear. Did not put it on. They say it was integrated. So then driving down the street the windsheild wiper came off and broke my windshield. Then my paint started to peel. They say i did not let it dry before washing. But i picked it up when they said it was done. So then i go back (three year warranty) they say go get a new windsheild and they will paint it all again w/ clear. What should i do to make sure they clear it and paint it all over again?

Just because you picked it up when they said it was done doesnt mean that the paint had cured. This is usually a several week process in the cooler months, due to the lack of heat to pull the solvents all out of the paint. As for the clear, certan types of paint have something like clear in them where it is a single layer paint, but it sounds like you got hosed on that deal. Where did you take it for paint? Mako?

its about 30 days to have the paint at its dryest depending on where you live and the temparatures out there

i would have done better pimpin primer wit a 4 bolt 350 punched to hell instead of wasting my money on paint

but if they did not tell you you maybe can get out with it .... and the windshield ... if they removed the wiper for the paint they are responsible for youre windshield ... as if a mechanics open your hood and the latch breaks and reclose it let it go... if it pops open and damage something or anything he is fully responsible

Thats my take on it. Why make it look good when it can be fast as hell.

Maaco paint jobs are right up there with Earl Shibe paint jobs... A "Good" paint job will run anywhere between 1500 and 2000 bux. That will usually include fixing any minor defects in the body prior to priming. An epoxy primer will be used, then usually 3 layers of paint and 2-3 layers of clear, then buff, then polish.

Ever hear the phrase, "You get what you pay for"? When it comes to Maaco, that applies more than most.

This is very true. I have been doing body work for many years now. And went to school for it finally in 2001. Thing is a lot of people out there want great things for cheap prices. I don't even pick up a paint gun for less then $300. But I have guys coming to me all the time that just got back from Iraq wanting custom paint with the jambs done and every inch of there truck color matched with some pearl and shaved everything. But when I say $3000 they look at me crazy. Just for materials to paint my own truck I payed $600 thats not including paper and tape. Most body shops charge $40+ bucks an hour. Maaco red scuff pads the whole car and doesn't take anything off so your never going to get good paint job out of that. The painting part is the easy part. Its all the prep work before hand that makes a or breaks a good paint job. And I could do a paint job for 100 bucks. But 1. it wouldn't be the color I wanted. It would be whatever the paint shop has as a "wrong color" paint. 2. I wouldn't be doing it to a car I plan on keeping more then 2 weeks. 3. I wouldn't be able to guarantee the paint. But I could the body work.

Well, as I said above, you get what you pay for... I mean, when they rebuilt my door piller (the b piller) The painting alone was 200 bux and that was just for a 32"x4" piece... Then again, they blended it so well you can't tell it from the factory paint, even by texture. (well, at least I can't and I'm pretty anal about things like that)

I've used cheap paint before. The car STINKS for like 3 weeks. Thank God it was just a roundy round car.

Guys walking into my pit area were like "What's the smell man?".

We'd point at Marvin and tell 'em he has sweet farts........

See thats my problem. I lay clear on to flat so you can tell the differents between factory orange peel and my smooth clear. But I point out stuff on all my friends cars that they never see. Had a friend pay 600 to get his S10 painted and I can tell where the key marks are on the truck due to they only spot primered the truck so when the light hits it right looks like he has a racing strip down the side of it.

Woa Maaco say no more they wave a scuffy pad at it and it's extra if the pad actually touchs the car just kidding they have been known to do good jobs although rare. It's so true with body work you get what you pay for.I've done good and cheap jobs it was all in what the customer was willing to pay the last truck I did back in 1999 was a 1956 Chevy Cameo the owner spent over $1500 in materials and the labor came to $9000 he wanted a trophy truck and he got it,super Chevy best of show for the next 3 years.Hey fastsdime how long you been painting I hope your using a fresh air suit I had to give it up after 20 years of spraying with only a particle mask I finally stoped coughing this year.I haven't decided if I'll shoot my 91 or pay someone depends if I can get the use of my buddy's booth, could be interesting (or scary) after not holding a spray gun in 7 years

I first started painting when I was 16. But doing it for a shop about when I was 21. And I use a fresh air mask but not suit. And my old boss makes sure that we change our cartrage filters on our mask all the time. He buys them in bulk and had us change them every monday and put them in a case whenever we aren't spraying. But now I only use that to prime. And I use fresh air to paint.
