okay we have the engine running by 2 switches for fuel pump and ignition and push button for starter. i want to wire in the fuel pump and ignition into the interior fuse panel so i just turn the key to on and both come on and then just hit the push button to start and go. i was thinking about wiring the fuel pump to power window fuse and installing a 20 amp fuse and the ignition to another fuse so the key comes on and all i have to do it push button to start. just wondering if this would be the safest way or should i go to the fuse relay box under the hood. another question. i want to remove the computer and all of the wiring that goes along with it, would that effect the operation of the fuse panel? thanks guy, this just puts us one day closer towards the end.

I like using an oil pressure switch to turn the relay on. Only disadvantage is a 5 second crank period when cold (gotta have oil pressure to turn the relay on).
However, a fuel pump relay from an 84 Volkswagen can be used. It has a terminal that goes to coil negative that engages the relay whenever the coil is firing.

It's actually a very popular VW relay used from the late 60's to the mid 80's. Any way.....
This is a track diagram. Top of page is various 12V pos. and bottom row is ground. As follows;
30-1 is hot at all times
15 is switched hot
31 is ground
Pin 87 at the relay goes to the fuel pump
Pin 31b goes to coil negative

I would splice in a hot from an oil pressure switch to pin 87. Good back-up if the relay ever fails. All of ours are wired that way.
Well, kinda........

okay we got the ignition and fuel pump wired so that when the key is on they are on, and just push button to start. got all of the old wiring harnesses removed and the engine bay cleaned up. but when i routed one wire to hot and one to ground for the trans brake it kept sparking. im not to sure about that one.

Well, yeah, it would if you complete the circuit. ;)
It goes on a momentary switch, usually mounted on the steering wheel.

okay, i wasnt there when my dad tried to do the trans brake wiring, i told him how it was supposed to be done. but somebody broke the switch in the t handle shifter we have to get a new switch. but we were able to get it driving around the yard under its own power, which was a nice thing to see.
