Yup. Consistent increases in the 10-15 hp range.

gooder, sheesh. Anything breathes better than the TBI single plane. On the 2.8 the runners are crap for low end power

Vortec heads are generaly thought of as in the '96 up vortec heads. They have a different intake manifold bolt pattern, and intake ports modeled after the lt1 ports.

The '92-'95 l35 heads while they flow better than the tbi heads flow worse than the '96 up vortec heads. Advantages to not going all the way would be cost, and emissions compatibility. There are currently no egr intake manifolds that will bolt up to the '96 up heads. You are stuck with the edelbrock 2114 carb intake.

Bottom line: On a budjet, and need for emissions compatibility, go with '92-'95 l35 heads, and stock replacement edelbrock intake manifold. For max effort, go with '96 up vortec heads, and the edelbrock 2114 carb intake with a tbi to carb plate, eliminating egr.

Does the Edelbrock intake work well by itself, or should you get the 'matched' cam with it?

The cam in the tbi trucks was very mild, as you can see here: http://www.s10planet.com/forum/showpost.php?p=44172&postcount=6

So, i would say that a cam would help a lot, maybe more than the intake itself. The tbi heads were also a chokeing point, i would upgrade to some '92-'95 cpi heads, or even better the '96 up vortec heads. Unless you have them already, the newer tbi trucks had the better heads i think.

If you get the '96 and up heads make sure you get the edelbrock 2114, not the tbi one. It doesn't have egr, so you would need a computer tune. The tbi unit won't bolt right up either.
