okay, i went to drop a friend off, walk her in and come back start up the truck, push in the clutch and it wont go into gear. i tired adding fluid and bleeding the clutch, i have full pedal pressure but the clutch is not moving (not hearing anything). so i call dad he tows me the 30 mile trip home, now its parked in a mudhole awaiting repair. i got a lot of little jobs ive done half ass on the truck, im thinking about pulling both the engine and transmission out to fix them all (leaky gaskets, etc). im thinking that its just the clutch it came brand new with over 272,000 miles ago just took a crap. i replaced the transmission & slave cylinder last summer. im thinking do the clutch kit, pilot bearing, oil pan gasket and valve cover gasket while i have both the cover and pan off inspect everything for wear and tear. its going to be a long time with out transportation but i reckon the school bus is going to have to do it, because i dont want to have to take anything else apart before i go to drop a "streetable" V-8 in it within the next few years. i just wanted to vent all that out and maybe get some opinions on what you guys would do or wouldnt do. thanks

John

you check that little box (sorry not big with manuals) that the clutch pull cable goes into next to the tranny to see if the stuff in there are worn?

well all the ZQ8 needs is a radiator, and its on order, but just making a 1 miles street run burned up almost 5 gallons. so it wouldnt be very fuel efficient. and the clutch in my truck is hydraulic (spelling). ive checked the master and slave cylinder. im thinking its gonna be a clutch kit. but i wont know untill i get it ripped apart.

my buddy has a 84 s-10 2wd reg cab, with the iron duke 2.5 and 4 speed, its a body shop's nightmare but he would sell it to me for 400. its got a crate engine in it that was put in years ago but runs strong, needs a windshield but i can install that. i think ill probably just get that for now, and save up for the v-8 project for my 98.

"Dont tell me what you are gonna do, show me what you have done"

"We have become part of something much more complicated than you or I will ever fully comprehend. We build more than just trucks. . . we build friendships, we build futures, we build our dreams. We drive our trucks low and hold our heads high because we have an unwritten and unspoken agreement that we will live life to the fullest and never fall fall victim to 'the norm'. Others laugh at us when we spend hours on end working on our trucks, yet shake our hands when we are done."

The $400 84 sounds like the way to go... If you need any interior parts, let me know... you aren't far from us and I have a lot of stuff left over from combining 2 Blazers. Most of it will probably end up going to the dump.

thanks tink, ill definateley keep that in mind. im taking the transmission out tonight to see what the damage is, i hope it just needs a clutch kit. bout 200 bucks from advanced auto. that would give me some transportation untill i can save up for the 84 s-10. its all a game of money right now because im going to have to borrow if from the parents, and thats always fun.

okay the engine and transmission are both out, all the springs on the clutch plate were sitting between the clutch and pressure plate. that would do it, im replacing the leaking valve cover and oil pan gaskets just to clean things up. im borrowing the money from my boss for a new clutch kit, i cannot afford a centerforce clutch, i need it running not race ready. my choices from advanced atuo are Fenco, Beck/Arnley, and Perfection. i was wondering if any of those three are better than the other. ive never installed one of these brands before and all of them are around the same price give or take 50 bucks.

i installed a perfection clutch kit and new flywheel and put it all back together, tomorrow evening im dropping the engine and trans back into the truck, one thing, i had to cut 3 ground wires off, they had rusted to hell. can i just take the 3 ground wires from the passenger side of the engine and ground them off at the frame? im not sure if the engine needed a certian ammount of ground wires going to it.
