My Grandpa gave me a 383 stroker early for my bday (he already had it). Anyways, could somebody tell me some of the things I will have to do to put it in my 85 S blazer? I don't want it to be a project where I say alot of "Uh-oh, I didn't expect this...now what??"

What am I looking at here?

Should I wait another year until I graduate?

My kind of man! Step 1:Do research and learn EVERYTHING you can about the swap Step 2:Start buying parts based on what you have learned Step 3: Install Step 4: Show everytire you ever put on just how much you hate it

As far as parts go, if you are going carb'd, you are already plumbed correctly as far as fuel goes. You will need motor mounts, a radiator, transmission fuel pump, regulator, etc.

As far as a step by step process of getting it in there, well...theres no good way to do that, but ask some specific questions and I would be happy to help answer them

More specific questions:

1. Does anybody have a picture of how the oil pan needs to be?

2. Will the exhaust manifolds I have work? (they came off of an 83 corvette)

3. How much are and where can I find motor mounts?

4. Should I get a 700R4 or use the TH350 I have?

5. Not a computer motor, how can I find the wires I don't need and get rid of

6. What am I gonna have to modify?

7. Should I even swap the motor now or wait til I'm graduated?....if I swapped it, I'd have the baddest vehicle at my high school:D

1) http://www.v8s10.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1304

2) Dont think so, I think it is camaro manifolds or swap headders

3) https://shell7.tdl.com/~jags/S-10_Order.html

4) Your choice, do you want O/D or not?

5) If its an 85, you shouldnt have a computer, so its a carb to carb swap

6) Fuel system, cooling system

7) Hell yes, was this a serious question?

yeah thats exactly what i did damn it was awesome ... but tires are pricey youll learn it wen you bring it to school .... but heck who gives a f..ck every ricers will move on the side of the parking to let you pass .... so cool feeling mouahaha ...

id go with the th350 since you already got it
the motor mounts are sold on jegs or summit ...
youll need espacially made headers the driver side has to come over the steering shaft...

what engine do u have in there , if your good with a welder or know someone who is, get them to possibly modify the mounts if its a v-6. thats what we did and changed the bushings in the mounts and add a torque chain, it will work for now to wreak some havoc on the streets of your town and when you have the money replace it with the right parts. just an idea

If its an 85 Blazer, it is gonna be a 2.8 with a carb and a 700 R4 and no, you cannot re-use your trans.

a 700-r4 would from a 6 would fit on the v-8 ?

why not ? i tought it was basically the same engine with 2 pistons more/less

Not the 2.8 The 2.8 is a 60 degree motor and the 4.3 and Small Blocks are all 90 degree. The bolt patterns on the trans are different between the two.

didnt the 60 degree head cars come with 200 R-4's.. i remember my friend's 92 camaro having a 200 r4 and a 60 degree engine

It has been rumored that the S10 came with the 200 R4, but I have never heard of one. They all have 700 R4's behind them (the 60deg automatics)

sorry i saw v-6 and didnt even look i automaticly tought 4.3 ...

i always thought the 2.8 trannys were different than the 4.3s, however, i looked it up in my service manual and it shows two different transmissions. 700r4 auto and borg wagner 5 speed manual w/ OD for 1985 blazers.

i think that if you can run your 2.8 trans behind the 350 its just a matter of time before the added power cooks it.

If you really want to do this swap I suggest investing the cash in to this book right here.JTR S10 V8 swap manual (http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Chevrolet_S-10_V-8.html)It covers almost every aspect of V8 swapps. They also sell several parts for the conversion to.I bought motor mounts from them for the swapps I did and they were great quality. My Dad has the book and is what I used on the swapps I did.A carbed 350 is gonna be the simplest by far.But if you want the advantages of fuel injection then you really need to get the book.Huge time saver.

Listen Carefuly The bolt pattern on the 2.8 is in a 60 degree V, the bolt pattern on the 4.3, 5.0, 5.7, 6.0, 7.4 etc is in a 90 degree bolt pattern. Internally, the transmissions are the same, externally they WILL NOT BOLT UP the bellhousing is cast into the body, it IS NOT REMOVABLE. The bolt bosses in the back of a 90 degree motor WILL NOT LINE UP WITH THE 2.8

The 2.8 was rebuilt before I bought it and right now it's TBI

for the transmission, don't they make adapters for them say if i were gonna use the 2.8 tranny

I think that if I put the 4.3L(295HP, 320FTLB of tq) in, it'd have the fastest car at school...right now it's a pitiful 04 Mustang GT(stock 265HP...I think). But it'd be close. If I had the 383 in there, I could race him a mile and have time to go through the sonic drive-in.

yea id say hes good enough, mines a steamfitter and ive been welding for years so its kinda second nature, just wanted to make sure you knew about what youd have to do before you dived in to deep
