alright i have the engine out and have cleaned everything up and its pretty much stripped down to just the long block, valvetrain componets look great for 272,000 miles, bottom half looks good. i was wondering if it would be advisible to pull off the timing chain cover and inspect the chain and replace the chain tensioner if the chanin looks okay, ive heard of people having that plastic thing break apart, and i dont want to have to pull it all apart if i can go ahead and replace it now. i was suprised when there was almost no oil buildup on anything.

I'd replace all the timing components. Dead serious.
