In case anyone is wondering how to replace/ rewire the rear

Absolutely ******* horrible design. All one peice

Its not very hard but it is a pain in the ass. Yes you have to remove
that huge interior panel, it runs almost the whole interior length of the car.
Most of the pannel is held in by metal clips, which just pop off when you pull
on them, but you will have to take off the seatbelts anchor bolts (t-60 torx
bit), the hanger hooks on both sides. On the drivers side you have to remove
the jack and tire changing stuff (with an additional screw in the back). On
the passenger side you have to take off the "oh ****!" handle.

After that, gently start pulling off the pannel starting near the door and work
your way back to the rear. Be carefully you dont crack it!.

You may have to pop off part of the ceiling panel in the rear to slide the
others out from under it. After everything is undone the panel lifts out of the
side retainers and you can move it to the side like seen in the pictures.
Your speakers shoul be held in with either phillips head or 1/4" headed
screws.

Hopefuly this helps someone looking to replace(or rewire in my case) their rear speakers.

You're right, getting at that stuff is a hassle due to the design of the interior panel. I had the passenger side off of mine trying to chase down a rattle, which that plastic stuff is prone to do. The plastic mounts for the retainers are fragile as well. Be careful not to break them off during removal or installation. They can't be replaced without replacing the whoel panel! Did you look at what it takes to replace one of the rear ash trays?
