I have an 03 Sonoma and want to reset the Engine light. Can't find it in the manual. Can anybody help?

Thanks a bunch.

The SES light, or the Change oil light?

Don't know for sure. It's a symbol of the engine that lights up. don't think it refers to oil change.

You will need to go get the dtc (diagnostic trouble code) pulled and erased. No way to do it without a scanner

You won't be able to deal with that on your own without a Hypertech or Superchips programmer.

Any scanner can pull the trouble code for diagnosis. Why would he need a programmer?

Or you should be able to unplug the battery for a little while. Unplug the negative(it is safer).

If there is a problem the light will come back though.

Ok, I know this is probably a BIG no-no... but I have had a few codes that wouldn't go away with just the "unhooking the neg. cable" and was looking at the fuse panel thinking hmmm.... I'm feeling kinda lucky today.... So key on, not running, I pulled the fuse for the ECM, then turned the key off, put the fuse back in and started the truck.

It runs a little rough for the first 3-5 seconds then runs like normal.

I had it scanned at the stealership and NO stored codes.

Am I going through the computer's life on borrowed time or is this a "kinda" OK way to clear codes?

I imagine it's not recommended for fear of voltage spiking the computer - Any other thoughts on the subject?

You are probably fine, when i am bench top programing an ecm my setup isn't much better than what you did by pulling the fuse.

The reason it runs rough is probably because it has dumped the long/short term fuel trims, and it is trying to figure out where the iac is.

That's what my understanding was too, but I couldn't quite find the right words to explain it like you just did =-))

Now if I can just find some help with my driveline post! =-))
