I have browsed on autotrader looking for this truck. I was always facinated by the performance of the 94 and 95 s-10 ss. Anyone know where to pick one up for a good price and if high miles, how to do an engine rebuild on them?

thanks

Robert

The engine rebuild is a fairly simple one. The 4.3 is basically a cut down Gen 1 Small Block, so all the SBC parts will work in it. Hell you could even go .030 over and up your displacement

I figure a rebuild would be a must. If I do get an ss, it would probably have a bazillion miles on it. How much does a rebuild cost for one?

Would like to do it myself but Im on the road a lot so I would probably have to get someone to do the job.

You drive I-75 through Gainesville? We are lucky enough to have 3 of the best engine builders in the south within a 25 mile radius of each other.

A sweet, balanced, hard pullin' 4.3? I'd say around 2G depending on how carried away you wanted to get.

Ive seen some Ford Lightnings. I drove one today and it was ragged out. Felt clastrophobic for a fullsize. Im 6"1'. I like the power but I also like room. I was considering a fullsize 96-98 chevy, with vortec 350, auto.

Im so up in the air on what I want.

I wouldn't mind a 94-95 s-10 ss, but I cant find one.

Can you give me some of the benefits of the vortec 350, cpi 4.3, and a lightning 351 ho?

I know 4.3's are great motors, not sure about vortec 350's and lightning trucks.

See, I still haven't purchased anything yet. Just have the cash, waiting on a truck. :) (I use to own a 79 el camino ss-fun car, and best vehicle Ive ever owned)
EDIT: You have a 92 s-10 blazer with 4.3 pulling 14's NA? Man thats a serious boost from stock.

Sparky, do you know of any 94-95 s-10 ss's for sale that haven't been lowered?

you can un-lower them for pretty cheep. All you need to find are front coils as the back has most likely been dropped with blocks that are easily removed

hmph, I dont want to have to involve myself in unlowering a vehicle. :)

There must be some 94-95 s-10 ss's out there?

There is a '95 SS unlowered in the classifieds on this site.

I just got a 94 ss a couple of months ago, we have quite a few 350 chevy parts so we used high performance rods, pistons, lifters, got a cam, but it cost us about $600 to get the machining done and an engine kit. And also i seen a 96 ss in NE kansas for about 3500 i think.
