The question should have been who would want one lol.Seriously the best days the 305 ever saw was the TPI version and those very few vortec 305's.Besides that they are all not worth the effort.I have seen a few pretty quick TPI 305's but that would only put them even with a stock to very mild 350.

I would take one if it was handed to me, but not really worth all of the hassle when a 350 sets you back the same with added displacement.

I noticed you got your motor from Jasper (so did I). It seems that a part of their pricing scheme is displacement. Was the 350 significantly more expensive?

There is no replacement for displacement.... But I'd take 305 over 2.8L or 4.3L. Sure you aren't going to get as much out of a 305 and a 350 is better, but does that make the 305 a bad motor? You can get reasonable, streetable power out of it as long as you pay special attention to the cylinder heads... probably 230 to 300 and a S10 weighs what? 3,500lbs?. You'll never get over 350hp out of it, but really when can you use all that anyhow?? Clearly if you were setting the truck up primarily to drag it, then perhaps the choice is a bit lean, but for a nice-sounding, easy and cheap to modify, fun truck, there isn't anything wrong with a 305. As the writer of a good article on 305s in Chevy Hiperformance said "Sometimes those of us writing and wrenching on project cars and hanging around dynos may lose touch with reality."

There are plenty of articles on higher horsepower 305s out there... Check out the tech articles at http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/

and here are a few from Car Craft:

That being said, I don't have a 305 either... my 'donor' truck had a Jasper 350 in it... but if it had come with the 305, I couldn't justify getting rid of it for a 350.

Thanks alot

But the motor was free and i plan on just putting a cam and 454 tb and and hook up my msd. I will keep building to this truck but since every thing is free almost why not? I mean its better than my 4.3l and i should be able to run some fair times at the track.
