ok so the other night i was lookin under my hood to see if i could find any of the spark plugs or wires arc-ing, well i could see the porcelin on the plugs blinking which i'm told is normal. one thing i noticed tho was that there was a flashing coming from the coil, it wasent real noticible, but it was deffinately coming from the coil. it looked like it was coming from behind the plastic cover on the coil.

anyways i went to napa and got a new coil, it dosent flash now. but, is it ok for the inside of the new coil to 'jiggle' around a little bit inside the metal case? what i mean is, if you hold the coil by the metal edges, and shake it a little bit, the 'part' in the middle moves around a little bit. two of the coils from napa did this, even the more expensive brand.

another thing i noticed tonight was that i could actually see the spark plug WIRES flashing...its not my imagination either, my girlfriend saw it too. the wires werent 'arcing' but they were flashing. they would flash at random times, where the wire was close to a ground. if i held the wire in my hand, the wire would flash where i was touching it. the wires are new, they are the 'bosch' brand from autozone. it wasent one wire either, all of them did it. i didnt notice this before i replaced the coil. maby its got stronger spark now? maby its all in my head.

so my questions are...

1. do you think my original coil was junk?

2. is it ok that the new coil moves around a little bit?

3. whats the deal with these plug wires?? should i get new ones??

THANKS!

How old are the plugs and what are they gapped to? Doesn't sound normal to me, mine don't flash anywhere.

I went racing (FINALLY!) this weekend. Shook out the Monte Carlo on an 1/8 mile. First pass was a 7.01 and 6 passes later had it down to 6.75 at a bit over a 100. Actually won 2 rounds. Pure luck, believe me. Guy I lost to won the event, so I didn't feel too bad. Here's a link; http://gainesvilleraceway.com/apcm/templates/results.asp?articleid=11365&zoneid=66

Depending on atmospheric conditions, a glow can be seen around the plug wires on a pitch black night. Something about ionization or some crap like that. One of you scientific guys oughtta be able to explain it. You should try it with an MSD 7. Pretty neat looking at times.

so its normal? i'm being told over and over on chevytalk that its not normal. but nobody wants to make an attempt to tell me whats wrong with it.

two different brands of plugs and two different brands of wires AND two different coils......

nobody wants to make an attempt to tell me whats wrong with it. .....

...or even better, how to fix it!

It's hard for city boys to understand what pitch black is.

Among other things.......
