Well i just got done putting my edelbrock tes headers on tonight. It was a biatch to say the least. After it was all done there is a leak on the passenger side somewhere and it sounds like its coming from where the header bolts to the head. IT SUCKS!! So now i have to go back and take the whole dang thing off again and check the stupid little gasket!! Those gaskets that edelbrock gave me were the kind of paper kind. And the factory ones were metal. Cheap people. So im going to go out and get some real gaskets for the thing. Any suggestions on what kind of gaskets to use?? Thanks.
You would think that for the price of the headders they could throw in a set of decent gaskets huh? Sparky should be on here soon to tell ya what he has.

run the normal manifold gaskets that you would buy at the parts store. You don't even have to take the hedder all the way off to install them, they just slip right in, i have heard of many people running theses gaskets to cure leaky hedder problems

I had some JBA shortys and I never ran into any problems except for the damn things wanting to fry my sparkplug wires.... After some coaxing I solved that problem.

that was a concern when i was looking into headers....how did u prevent that? get'em coated or wrapped or what? my buddy had header wrap on his camaro and it was worthless...

I take my headers to the machine shop and stick the flanges on the belt sander. They're never straight. I then use a good quality asbestos gasket (take your pick) and apply Permatex Ultra-Copper to both sides of the gasket (thin layer does fine). Torque all bolts evenly, fire up for about 60 seconds, shut it off and re-torque. Next time they're cold, I torque 'em again.
The above method is bulletproof.

I bought the JBA wires and was VERY careful on how they were routed.... the headers were already ceramic coated

Well got the headers back on. Sealed the crap out of them with some ultra copper. Also used the good gasket. Worked great and no leaks! Now its time for some fun! After my 500 mile break in for the new centerforce clutch that is! Oh well for now it sounds mean as hell!!!

Mr. gasket use to make header gaskets they called copperseal. I sparyed them with copperseal permatex they worked great. They also have (I think) they call them ultra seal with is metal gasket sandwiched between 2 pieces of asbestos.
BUT ALWAYS USE COPPERSEAL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BTW works great on head gaskets too.

Dont forget to check the bolts and re-tighten them after a few cycles of run and rest. Save yourself some time later on

so did you get any noticeable power gains or better mileage from the headers? how is the finish lasting? i'm looking at a set similar to yours and i'd like to know all i can...

drill and saftey wire the stupid bolts....even after i torqued them like sparky said to do they still come loose after the heating and cooling effects. i've had the bolts come loose and burn up the gasket in minutes!
