Well the truck has been pretty well lately, but I have noticed that partial throttle is sometimes better than full throttle performance. Shift points aren't right on either.
Make sense?
I'm lookin' at wideband and Tunercat. I'm thinkin' maybe this needs to be dialed in a bit more. I don't really want to drop it off to a shop that is 50 miles away and be without my ride for most of the week. Plus I don't believe they honestly dialed it in like it should be. They just got it to run and gave it back.
I think I'll go with LM-1 for wideband, but what exactly do I need for software\hardware from Tunercat?
I know it's a silly question, but I don't want to order all this and find out I missed somthing.
You have a 2003?
I would strongly consider:
http://www.hptuners.com/
It is more expensive, but they have a 2 bar speed density conversion so that you don't loose resolution on your ve table. Also, you eliminate the maf, so you don't have to dial that in(i can't wait to get rid of mine) This also has a scanner that will read off of your wideband sensor. Their new usb cable i believe will do black box recording(no need to carry the lap top for shakedown runs). They also have auto VE fixing, making dialing in the ve table a snap.
A ton of info on tuning here: http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=7
Check out their stickies.
Tuner cat will get the job done though, and for cheeper.
Here are the tuner cat forums: http://www.monodax.com/forums/index.php
You get everything you need to edit your ecm for 379. It includes the software, and hardware.
Tuner Cat does not include a scanner yet, and monodax is taking his sweet old time getting a scanner on the market. It has been comming out next week for more than a year now. I ended up getting the palmer performance scanner, but it isn't any where near as good as the hptuners stuff.
As far as tuning i think what you are going to want to do is this.
Unplug the maf. Turn off the fuel trims with your tuning software. This turns off the o2 learning. Now, you are going to log map, wideband volts, comanded afr, and rpm. You can look at how far off each cell in the ve table is, and correct for it. With the 2 bar conversions this will make it a snap to dial in the ve in boost, and out of boost.
I think you are on the right track with the innovative stuff. I got the aem gauge, it looks nice, but so far i have no way to log the data, and that makes it a pita to tune. I know my scanner package will read the innovative wideband, but not the one i have. Eventualy if monodax comes out with a scanner that will take a 0-5V input i will be set.
Oh, and to add, the part throttle better than full throttle, mine was doing that, my maf was way off. I ended up going to a lt1 maf(it is a little bigger) and a heavily modified silverado maf table. I still want to get rid of mine though.

Man, you had me at hello. :D I think you are right on about the MAF. Not to mention being able to clear up some of the clutter under the hood if the MAF isn't required
$650 for VCM Suite GM Pro, not so bad. Seems to be worth it.
Be prepared for more newbie questions Rat.
By the way Joker, I get this with spellcheck
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: pspell_config_create() in /hsphere/local/home/joker204/s10planet.com/forum/checkspelling.php on line 26

Besides the tuner software, what else should be on my shopping list?
A wideband o2 sensor that can output to whatever interface you get for scanning. I have the aem, and if you went with the hptuners you should be able to log it. The innovative widebands have better support though, and i am kind of wishing i had gone that route.
Did you decide 100% on the hptuners? If you go with tuner cat you will need a scanner also.
Annother option, is efi live, not positive if they have the 2 bar sd support for the v6's though. http://www.efilive.com/overview_custom.aspx

Yeah, I'll go with the HPTuners VCM Pro software, plus the Innovative wideband.
What else?
A laptop would help probably. I think the hptuners comes with a cable that will plug into a usb port, and that is handy, because tunercat uses a serial port that most new laptops don't have.
I think you are all set then.

I'm a computer geek hobbiest so I've got plenty of laptops around. Only one doesn't have a serial port, and all of them have USB. So that's covered.
So with just those tools I can delete the MAF?
You are an automatic right?
And, you are getting the custom os for a 2bar map?
The problem with getting rid of the maf on my 2000 with tuner cat, and no custom os, is the transmission. I know when i get rid of mine my trans shifts funny. This is because the computer determines the load, and therefore the trans line pressure off of the maf. Mine chirps the tires into drive without the maf. And, when i go to a 2 bar map i will be halving all of the tables, so the computer will think i have half the load. This would cause major slipage in the trans. The solution is to go to a vacuum modulated trans. And i will be installing it in 2 weeks with a couple other trans goodies. Got them from here if you are interested: http://www.700r4l60e.com/
Hellbents10 also has the parts if i am not mistaken.
Anyhow, with the custom os i assume they have made the precautions to keep the line pressure inline, you might ask them, or do a search on the ls1tech forum, or the hptuners forum. So you should be fine with the electronic pressure control.
So, you shouldn't need anything else. Edit, with the 2 bar map you would need a 2 bar map also obviosly.

Yup, it's an auto. I'll look into the link you posted. Plus I will be searching the forums about pressure control.
Cool, can't wait to learn about this.

Well, i could not find any one with line pressure problems with the SD tunes. I did find several people have had problems especialy the '98 camaro's NOT using the sd tunes. But, "Chris" can suposedly fix it if it is a problem.
This one pertains to trucks:

And the rest are with the '98 camaro's, but for them it sounds like the problem was fixed mid '99 by GM.

Edit, I also just noticed this, I think this was linked from MKR's sig on s10forum, i guess they can do email tuning now, and the pricing is very nice, if you need help once you get your stuff: http://zippyperformance.com/_wsn/page3.html
