Me and my dad got an 84 S10. This is the "plainist" truck ever. No radio or speaker areas, no tilt, no air, only lo and hi wipers, no moldings on bumper or body. My dad got it from his grandma and it was owned by her husband. He bought it in 84, new, with no options except for automatic and sliding rear window. It has 119K on it but it has a spun bearing. My dad has wanted this for a long time and now we got it. It's cool cuz it's one owner but anyways....

The Plan:

strip completely down to frame and sandblast
rebuild all suspension, brakes, etc
and do a fullout restoration w/ a small block

My dad took this 350 block to a local speed/machine shop and they are boring it(60over), stroking it, and then he is taking the aluminum heads off of his old monte carlo and getting them rebuilt and he said he's expecting at least 500 horsepower. He was gonna drag race it only but he decided he'd have more fun with it as a weekend treat.

We haven't even started yet except for pulling it(well...pushing it) into the garage. It'll take a while since we just moved into a new house and his budget has changed....but I get the "honor" of doing the body work he said. I'll try to get some pics on here soon from when it was still at my great grandmas houses.

Any cool ideas as to what we could create overall?? What are we looking at? :)

Easy small block swap, hit me up if you need any advice during it. For suspension, You can buy a bolt in backhalf kit from art morrison thats got a 4 link and a 9" centersection. Its already narrowed so you can put bigger tires in the back. Tubular controll arms in the front, bigger brakes....hrmmmm. Bout all i can think of. You could shave some stuff, that would be cool

I don't think I'd restore it. I'd go the individual route and build up the frame & suspension to handle the kind of power you're talking about.

Maybe a 1 piece fiberglass front end?

TMan: I'll have to tell my dad about that rear end cuz he was saying that he wanted a 4 link rear that was narrowed.

Sparky: If I was in control of the build I'd probably do what your talking about but unfortunately my dad is wanting to restore it. It has a sentimental value to him.

We're shaving the door handles, and gonna make a one piece bed with taillights in the rollpan. He saw an awesome dash in a stylinconcepts catalog for an 82-94 S10,S15, S-Blazer and S-Jimmy. take a look at their website sometime...its a pretty cool dash.

I just have to go with the flow on this one, do as I'm commanded and hope for the best. I'm seeing good things since his 1963 Impala SS w/ a 409 and 2-4bbl setup backed by a 4 spd is SWEEEET.....although that is original. I don't think he's gonna put this one back original. lol I'll keep ya'll posted.

Congrats to you and your dad...thats great that another S/10 is being saved from the crusher even better that it's still in the family.I like the fact that your going to restore it and not just add a high performance motor to an old truck..easy Sparky I know "restore" conjors up visions of correctnes like skinny tires on origonall rims and correct dated parts like hoses and glass and emblems etc..nooo I think this project is going a different direction,I'll steal an old hot rodding term "Restorod" : definition-A vintage body with a badass drive train..yaaa thats how I see it, dont bother with fancy upgrades like ,AC and power this and power that it's just more weight the beauty of this truck is it's simplicity and it's weight! which is practically nothing.500 HP in a truck that barely weighs 2000 lb WHOOHOOOooo..but definetly upgrade the suspension and brakes there's, a segment in JTR's literature that backs this up. so enjoy the build. We are looking forward to pics

That's what we are doing. We are gonna strip it, toughen up the frame, suspension and brakes then put the small block in it. It will get a nice paint job and interior but the cool part about this truck is about how plain it is. Why do you need a radio when you have 500 horsepower???? and 500 horsepower will bring in enough ac from the windows. I'm excited. I'll get pics very soon. Sadly I am more excited for this than I was for my blazer but maybe its cuz my dad's budget is capable of more. HAHAHAHAHAHA:coolspot:
