View Full Version : Newer Camaro OR Older Corvette??
Another which would you choose poll here...
Right now, I have a 2002 Camaro Z28 35th Anniversary. I LOVE it and currently use it as a daily driver along with an old crusty S10 Blazer. BUT, since I do use it for a daily driver and my group is being relocated downtown next year, I'll be parking in tight spaces and I am worried about it getting dinged up or hit. SO, should I keep it and just drive my crusty S10s all the time OR should I trade it in a rat-mobile daily driver and buy the other car I've always loved, a late 70s Corvette??
Any thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated!!

All Corvettes have their ups and downs. Having owned 3 (65, 74 and 82) I have been less than impressed. The brakes (regardless of upgrade) seem to be a regular problem. A/C on those equipped with it, is less than desirable and a source of seemingly constant repair. The IRS is a real screwy set-up with hardly any alignment techs left to know how to REALLY align it properly (only myself and one other guy in Gainesville I know of). The hub and bearings (rear) are a source of misery as is the factory leaf spring set-up. And, last but not least, the "fiberglass car" is a misconception. The dash panel support is all metal and is very rust prone.
In other words, it's a love/hate relationship with me. And I still have the 65 with it's upgraded rear suspension and brakes. Bottom line? You've got a spare car for when the 'vette is down. But I still voted for the '02. ;)
I say the Fbody.
Not a realy big fan of min-life vettes. I like the newer ones mainly
I guess one thing I should mention is that both S10s are up there in mileage (207K and 187K), so I am worried if I keep the Camaro that I may need to drive it to work if the crusty old Blazers fail me.
If I got a Vette, it would be strickly a weekend cruiser... and the crusty old Blazers would be back-ups for the daily driver.

I'm not a fan of trailer-queens or weekend drivers, no matter how nice a car is I have to drive it. Also I'd take the 02' Camaro, the Vette would have to be ether an older 67'-69' with a Tri-power 427 or a newer C6.

im for the 02.....my dad's friend has an 82 corvette that is fully restored. My dad's friend likes the way they look but doesn't like any of the mechanical or electrical design. he said a lot of things go bad with them. instead of spending money on a corvette spend money on some engine work for the s10s.
but do as you please...it is your money.
EDIT: didn't they make only 1000 Z28's and 1000 SS's??? i wish i had something like that.

i say keep the camaro, just make sure you have good insurance coverage incase something did happen. the money you would spend keeping the vette up and running would make that camaro even more bad ass
Thanks guys. I'll be keeping the Camaro and waiting to see what happens. Hopefully, I can park in corner spots, close to the wall on one side. Otherwise, I guess the Blazers will get alot of use! And maybe I'll buy a used Cavalier...

Seriously, the Ecotec, with factory parts, can push 600hp easily.

Yup....hes gone for good. Too much time in the plastic, not enough time in the blazer

my dads cobalt has an ecotec....i like it. but when the 2.2ecotec or 2.4ecotec get turboed......:). But I like my dad's 2.0 S/C. We we were cruisin at about 1500 rpms at 120 in 5 gear(redline at 5500 or 6000). cobalt ss top speed is 156. pretty nice for stock and GM and 4 cyl.

Plastic? Only the hood on the Monte. Everything else is stock sheetmetal. And the Blazer is moving further up the list. Shortblock is back from the machine shop. Gotta choose heads as I only have one good 462 casting. The 327 blew chunks in the other and I can't find a match.
Plastic is what we call Saturns around here.

Ahhhh.....the Saturn is sold. Been driving the Safari. Got it set up for towing the Monte to the track. 'course, I've put 1200 miles on the Victory in the last 2 weeks so even the Safari hasn't seen much driving.

I really like the body styles of the old vettes but as reliability i would go with the camaro

Camaro because I cant help myself but to do mods. Anytime you attach Corvette to the part, apparently a tax is added. F-body parts are easier to find, cheaper, and a late 70s vette isnt a powerhouse phenomenon. Love the body style though

If I had $2500, at one time, when I was 20 I could have walked away w/ a cherry '74 C3 vette & if I had $3500 I could have got my cousins '84 C4 vette that needed to have new weather stripping installed. Instead I drove my miata that could beat them both off the line because of some seriously steep stock gears... but I digress... Corvette!!
at least the engine isnt under the firewall in the Vette.for me it would depend on if they do smog checks in your area. Here they dont and the old vettes like that are cheap.
