This is VERY frustrating... I feel like maybe I am over-looking something simple. I put a non-column shift steering column from a 1986 manual Blazer in my 91 auto (B&M floor shifter) Blazer... I knew the wipers came on when you used the turn signals in the 86 SO, I replaced the turn signal cam inside the steering column and the lever/switch, but the windshield wipers still come on when I use turn signals! What am I missing here?

Is it the good ol' "phantom wipe"? Just one sweep of the wipers? Here's the bulletin;

Corp. Bulletin No.: 968302 Subject:WINDSHIELD WIPER PHANTOM WIPE

Model and Year:1985-90 S/T/M TRUCK AND 1990 L TRUCKTHIS BULLETIN CANCELS AND SUPERSEDES DEALER SERVICE BULLETIN NO. 90-171-8E, DATED FEBRUARY 1990. THE LABOR TIMES HAVE BEEN UPDATED. ALL COPIES OF 90-171-8E SHOULD BE DISCARDED.

Some 1985-1990 M vans, 1990 L Vans and S/T model trucks may exhibit intermittent phantom wipe - occasional wiper sweep of the windshield with no driver input. A new steering column wiper switch (http://www.motoralldata.com/alldata/MOTOR~V35426341~C7779~R0~OD~N/0/34870059/42417555/42419404/42419405/34853741/34869535/101367322) has been developed with an internal resistor to correct this condition.

The following parts can be installed to repair intermiftent phantom wipe. They will service subject M/L vans and S/T trucks. SERVICE PARTS INFORMATION

Part Number Description

26020403 Switch (Standard) 26020404 Switch (Tilt Wheel)

Yeah, one sweep of the wipers whenever I use the turn signals... where is the wiper switch located? When I clicked on that it told me I needed to log in. Also, is the part only avalible at the dealer?

Steering wheel comes off, then the lock ring (you do have a lock ring depressor?) and turn signal switch. Here's a couple better pics.

The lh pic is tilt wheel and the rh pic is non-tilt.

Steering column service can be challenging on a tilt column if you're not familiar with it. Take your time, lay out all the parts in order of removal and apply a great deal of patience.

Here's a better pic of each column. If you have a manual trans (with key release) it's slightly different.

I have a tilt manual trans (with key release) column... and I do have the lock ring depresser. So, is it the Pivot Switch Assembly that I'd be replacing?

I probably won't replace it right away... I need this truck on the road until I get the other one back together.

i have the same problem with my 93. if you dont want to do all that replacing, or just get po'd and take out your frustration on it. you can hit the end with a little force. it hardens up how easily it turns. when you do that, you can find that sweet spot where it wont turn the wipers on. then youre good to go. a little bit of friendly persuasion fixes everything.

Strange... I don't remember posting this in the open forum...

Sounds like the big hammer approach - if it doesn't work, you need a bigger hammer.
