I know you guys want the site to be great.. and you want the site to be popular and useful for people looking for info on the chevs. Personally, i hear all this talk about s10planet and how we should do this like s10planet and we should follow by their rules and so on. Now by no means am i dissin on s10planet... i have been to the site plenty of times looking for some info. But why not try to make this site original instead of trying to follow the planet? I think this site has great potential in being one of the biggest sites for chevys yet. I would also like the site to be original and a site that we can say was made great by the ideas of all the people who turn to the site as a source of info/entertainment. By no means once again am i dissin on planet... i just think this site could be more original if we all didnt go by every single thing the planet goes by.

Also, a LOT of the members here are originally from S-10Planet, so we've grown accustomed to how things are run there. Again, they work. Also, this site emulates the Planet in how it is structured, organized, run, etc.

Yes, this site is an entity all its own, and it will become great for what IT is, and not for what the Planet is. But, for a lot of us, that is our point of reference -- much like using the sky as an example of "blue." Lame example, I know, but it's WAY past my bed time and I'm starting to get loopy. But, I'm hoping I can convey my point.

Also, if you look at the Forum breakdown, the S-Series section IS S-10Planet, so the legacy continues -- it's just grown in size and scope.

Lastly, the main people running this site are the people running S-10Planet (Jedi Master/Obi Wan, Admin, D-Caf, Maximus, and myself in the capacity of Admins), and we can't change how we do things overnight. We run them how we run them. We ARE SGMT and we ARE S-10Planet. So, it stands to reason that the two sites are run similarly. But, I (for one) understand what your concern is. No, we will not be an S-10Planet clone. How things work on the site will change as IT changes and grows, but for now we use the best run site around (S-10Planet) as our basis for what could very easily be a BETTER ONE (SicGMTrucks).

i understand that all of you are from the planet.. but like you pointed out... i just dont want this to be a "clone".. yes of course planet's way of running things work and yes everything flows nice... that great. I was just afraid of having 2 planets instead of 1 planet... 1 SGMT. I have great expectations for this site and would hate for people to not come because it is TOO much like planet. just my thoughts... but i totally understand SC-ZQ8

Understandable as well. There can be only one. (Sorry, "Highlander" reference there!) There is no reason for people not to come. If they have a bias against S-10Planet, they probably wouldn't last long anyhow. The main problem with the Planet is that is doesn't pop-up on very many search engines, so traffic is mostly gotten through "word of mouth."

This site has only been going for less than a month, so it needs to have SOMETHING as a basis -- and why not the best run site around? Once it grows and develops, it will take on its own persona entirely. So, there will be only 1 Planet -- probably the one IN SGMT.

Think of the Planet as the seed that grew this. It already is but a small part of this site. It will become more than the Planet ever could be due to the make-up. At the same time, if it weren't for the Planet...........

I don't think this site is too much like the planet, but I do always here references and comparisons to the planet and that gets kinda old. Only b/c this is its own site we don't have to compare everything to the planet.

OK, Planet needed a major upgrade to continue. Planet needed a new server to continue.
Arthur had planned to just use this new Bulletin and server to be the new S10Planet.com. I talked him out of the idea and wanted to expand. Took a few wekks of surfing around and mulling ideas over in my head.The idea came to me afeter seeing all the replies, and the basis idea I had in my head. While since we are moslty from Planet, people regard us as planeteers. Fine!
Planet was one of the most if not the most serious S forum for logical and truthful information out there. We didnt want to follow I said so like other sites and post real information. Is there a problem with that?
The new forum is setup in a way that all who frequent certian sections will control the basic context to how it runs. Being S guys, the Planet section will continue to run like Planet did. How the full size guys who end up here, Colorado guys etc, their sections will be run as there sectiosn. Only thing I will be watching for is blatant I said so!!
Now for the forums as a whole, yes the planet section will continue to mirror Planet, that cant be helped nor do we want a change. But the forum as a whole and its members will make or break how the otjer sectiosn run. Remember its the people who determine this. You have alot of whores, well it'll be a whore site.You have knowledgable people, It'll be a knowledgable site etc.

The Planet's been up since 2001, and most of us have a few years there, so naturally we're going to be a bit 'homesick' during this transition. Whenever a bug in the system comes up, or a debate about how to set up a new section, we'll probably refer back to the Planet, since we had most of the issues worked out there.

Like S/C'd said, if people are biased against the Planet chances are they'll be biased against this site as well, and they'll make it known. I stopped reading the other forums, and stayed with the Planet since the members are very serious about answering questions, and helping you with problems. All too many times I would get responses on other boards such as "that sucks, good luck", with no constructive advice.

All in all, I'm happy we're keeping reference to the original site, which I'm proud to be a member of!

Heck, even I don't want it to be an S-10Planet clone. It is its own entity, and it will flourish as such. It will branch off in new directions and continue growing -- growing into the best truck site on the WEB. But, as Jedi Master stated -- that is all up to the members. The site will take whatever direction WE want it to. So, if we want it to be just like every other board out there, it will be -- but if we want it to be the best, most informative, most fun site around, then it will be.
