$300 Blazer Project is on the road - well almost, still need to go for an inspection and I need to figure out why the back up lights aren't working first.
Anyhow, a little over a year ago I bought a 1991 S10 Blazer 2wd, 4.3L auto with 186K. It had an analog instrument cluster, 3:08 gears, body was in good shape & primer gray, had a blue interior that was in horrible shape - no headliner, most trim missing, seats cut, carpet in poor shape. It ran good, but we bought it for parts for the 1991 Blazer 4wd. After I drove it an hour home, I decided to fix it and drive it. This is when I found out that the rear end was toast… it needed new rear axle seals, but you couldn’t replace them because the lock pin was seized in the carrier. So I started to part it out…
Then my man brought home a 1986 S10 Blazer 4wd, 2.8L Manual with 215K for $800. It had an analog cluster w/ tachometer, 4:10 gears, body mostly in poor shape – been rolled, had a gray/black interior in good shape. It ran for a little while, but then the tranny went.
SO, when life hands you lemons, make tequila… I gutted the interior of the 2wd and replaced it with the interior from the 86… adding new carpet, a B&M shifter and a 110mph analog cluster (I got this because I used the original cluster for the 4wd Blazer and sold it’s digital one). The grant steering wheel came from the Baja, as well as the 3:42 gears. Since I sold the core support and grill from the 91, I used the front from the 86 on it. I also used the rear glass which was in better shape. I used old rims from my man’s old 96 S10. I also swapped the power mirrors from the 4wd to it. The 4wd Blazer got a lot of parts from the 86 too… 4.10 gears, fuel pump and sending unit, door wiring harnesses, spindles, tailgate... And the Baja/K5 hybrid will be getting the instrument cluster from the 86 and the steering column from the 91. So, all-in-all I figured I broke even. Plus, I found $1.25 in dimes, pennies and nickels from the interiors of the 91 and 86. :D
Anyhow, on to the pics!
