$300 Blazer Project is on the road - well almost, still need to go for an inspection and I need to figure out why the back up lights aren't working first.

Anyhow, a little over a year ago I bought a 1991 S10 Blazer 2wd, 4.3L auto with 186K. It had an analog instrument cluster, 3:08 gears, body was in good shape & primer gray, had a blue interior that was in horrible shape - no headliner, most trim missing, seats cut, carpet in poor shape. It ran good, but we bought it for parts for the 1991 Blazer 4wd. After I drove it an hour home, I decided to fix it and drive it. This is when I found out that the rear end was toast… it needed new rear axle seals, but you couldn’t replace them because the lock pin was seized in the carrier. So I started to part it out…

Then my man brought home a 1986 S10 Blazer 4wd, 2.8L Manual with 215K for $800. It had an analog cluster w/ tachometer, 4:10 gears, body mostly in poor shape – been rolled, had a gray/black interior in good shape. It ran for a little while, but then the tranny went.

SO, when life hands you lemons, make tequila… I gutted the interior of the 2wd and replaced it with the interior from the 86… adding new carpet, a B&M shifter and a 110mph analog cluster (I got this because I used the original cluster for the 4wd Blazer and sold it’s digital one). The grant steering wheel came from the Baja, as well as the 3:42 gears. Since I sold the core support and grill from the 91, I used the front from the 86 on it. I also used the rear glass which was in better shape. I used old rims from my man’s old 96 S10. I also swapped the power mirrors from the 4wd to it. The 4wd Blazer got a lot of parts from the 86 too… 4.10 gears, fuel pump and sending unit, door wiring harnesses, spindles, tailgate... And the Baja/K5 hybrid will be getting the instrument cluster from the 86 and the steering column from the 91. So, all-in-all I figured I broke even. Plus, I found $1.25 in dimes, pennies and nickels from the interiors of the 91 and 86. :D

Anyhow, on to the pics!

Outstanding job there Tink! Looks like a factory blue color. Gonna stay with that?

Oh yeah, I see the Camaro is still pulling duty. ;)

I do love that Blue, but I'm kind of thinking of going black with a cowl hood...

LOL, yeah, the Camaro is the daily driver still... kind of hard to pry my hands off of it's steering wheel when the weather is nice!

That is a B&M Sport shifter... I cut down the tower/cover to just a little higher than the front of the console. It is a little close to the dash and maybe not the best placement, but I put it in before I put the dash in. :o

Thanks everyone... this project has been pretty rewarding for me. I loved taking it for it's first really drive yesterday... she idles kind of rough, but she is peppy!

KODIAKWARRIOR, I was thinking of doing the rattle can high gloss engine paint like you posted... plus I'm thinking of adding a roll pan and smooth bumper too.

She is certainly more than a $300 truck now!

Two more of the exterior... I did little to the outside, other than the power mirrors... and since I had parted out most of the front end, a lot of that was replaced with parts from the 86.

This one really shows the '50's gasser' look that the larger rear tires give it...

Not sure when she'll get painted. Just going to enjoy driving her for a while... She is in for an inspection today, so hopefully she'll pass...

What color are you going to paint it?

I'm thinking black... I really need to get someone to photoshop it for me in a few different colors (or go buy the software and do it myself).

Anyhow, she passed inspection yesterday, so she is legally on the road!! :jump2_125

Gonna take some around town drives, then I'll start driving her to work.
