just wondering if it was possible or if anyone has tried to hook a trigger sensitive controler such as x-box upto their truck to steer, gas, brake, exc...
any comments would be great also any idea's about this on how it would work

Don't know of any, but my main question would be, why?

just because it would be crazy and it seems like it's possible

for automatic at least
theoreticly it would be possible on the new throttle by wire systems that GM has, but as far as braking, until the brake by wire systems come out (lexus is hard at work with this one) you are stuck with hydraulic brakes

i'm sure it is possible though to hook up a servo strong enouph to apply pressure on the hydrolic system though to apply the brake, is it not? making this project quite possible and also futureistic as such. This controler could possibly be used to steer, apply gas, brake, even pushbutton start and shut off. with enouph creativity you could even make it standard with clutch and gear's on the controler. What do you think? is it possible?

They do this on myth busters all the time. But as seen on the show its not as easy to control as one would think.
just exactally how deep are your pockets?

I agree. Even sitting in the truck trying to drive it from, say, the passenger seat ..... Steering would not center itself unless you had a release on the wheel that turns the steering wheel.
It would be fun though ..... IF you have like 10K dollars to spend on servos and solenoids and pay an engineer to design an interface circuit. And the time to do it. The big thing is, being able to "transistion" your controls, or make them variable. You would not achieve variable gas/brake, and especially variable steering with a game controller ....You would get on and off, unless you paid somebody a lot of money to program the outputs of the analog x/y sticks on the controller .... now youre into microprocessor control...

actually this is the exact reason why i was thinking of the x-box controler it has variable steering gas and brakes with the xstick and the left and right triggers. also the push botton a,b, x, y, start, select, white, black, could be use for stuff like wiper mist setting, push button on off, lights on, highbeams, and whatever. Also I would be doing all the circuitry myself. only thing that would be expencive would be the rigging of the brake and steering unless i can find away around buying servos and solenoids.

I'm going to look at hat the wires on the controler do and see how they can be intigrated into the truck wiring. From this i will determine how much work is required. I knwo there is alot but it'll give me something todo in my spare time

what joker and I are sayin, is, if you did get it to work, don't drive it on the street, you wouldn't be able to do any evasive manuvers, could put the brake down hard enough etc...etc...

ya well i would be driving it on the street anyways that's just crazy.. it would just be crazy to get to work.. good thing to spend my spart time at though..
