i need something to pull the ZQ8 to the track and winter transportation, and the syclone wouldnt be ideal for winter driving.
so i had my mom meet me at a local used car dealership last night to show her this 2003 ZR2 and we started the paperwork, i cant actually take possession until after my 18th birthday on June 1st. we put down $400.00 and they are fixing a few things before the 1st. its a clean looking truck and drives well. here are a few pictures. im not going say how much im paying for it until after the repairs are done and i talk the salesman down. the seatbelt light stayed on, and there was a oil leak under the engine, it sat on the lot for 9 months so im figuring either a oil cooler leak, oil pan or valve cover. and i also wanted the remote control driving lights fixed (think its the battery in the remote). no engine noise of drivetrain vibration, so hopefully it will all work out.

I would cut the exhaust tips off and turn the exhaust down.

I concur... and rip the mufflers off too, you aren't required to run them on pickups in this state.

Nice looking ride... congrats!

Tips ain't bad but those are rusted all to **** and stick out a little to far for my tastes.

thanks guys, its got a flowmaster series 40 muffler and the tips are the only sore spot of the truck, im gonna look at my options as far as a custom exhaust system once the 90 day warranty is up. i had a caterpilar diesel muffler on the zq8 when it was just a street 4.3 liter and it sounded real nice, but i want this truck to be clean, real clean. untill i rip up some mud holes!

Go with Magnaflow you won't be disappointed.

Looks like a nice truck. If I wouldn't have found a ZQ8 that I liked, my next choice was a ZR2.

magnaflow sounds like a good idea, and id like to run all stainless tubing because i like the tone it produces compared to aluminized. money wont be a real big concern on this one, ill have some nice money flowing in starting the end of june and my only obligations are insurance truck payment and savings, so ill take ideas. i was thinking how about the ZQ8 rims on my yellow truck (16X8) with 32 inch Baja Claw MTX tires? ive never seen a ZR2 with those rims, maybe for a good reason.....

Is the backspacing on the ZQ8 rims much different than the stock ZR2 rims? Sometimes, less backspacing causes problems with tire rubbing on fenders in turns... even with stock tire size, so 32s may not work.

yea tink i wasnt 100% sure about that, but im sure it would look cool. but im gonna check into that to see what my options are.

Stock ZQ8 rims on a 4x4 is gonna stick out from the fender wells because of the axle length between a 4wd S10 and a 2wd S10 is different.A 4wd is wider by almost 2 inches I think. You can't run 4wd rims on a 2wd either with out spacers. But as much lift as that truck has and those really wide fender flares you would be fine using 2wd rims on your ride.To me they look cool sticking out on a 4wd.You could use rims from a late model Fbody also. They have a close backspacing to a 4wd S10.Don't know how they would look on a high riding 4x4 though.

yea i want my truck to look beefy but still perform good, im gonna try em out with the regular street tires to make sure they will look good. i got big plans for this truck, but most wont start untill the warranty ends, so i got 90 days to save up!

a RPO ZQ8 is basically the extreme with out the body kit and xtreme badging.
