View Full Version : Feeling Overwhelmed by S10 Hybrid project
Well, my main project (putting my S10 BAJA on a K5 frame/drivetrain) was put on the back-burner so I could get the 2wd Blazer done. Now that the Blazer is on the road, it is time to work on the 'hybrid' and I have to admit that I am feeling really overwhelmed by it right now... I mean the K5 runs and drives as it is right now. What if I screw something up? I need to re-wire the entire thing... what if something prevents me from running the motor for a long time? I guess I'm just starting to freak out... I am almost feeling like I should go find another S10 and just put the Baja parts on it...
look at it this way, its a project, not a daily driver right? Dont be scared bout not having it run for a while, thats kind of the point.

i know the feeling tink. you need to just take it one day at a time, just think, which project would give you the best feeling of satisfaction? the S-10 on K5 frame would be cool and unique. hell if you need an extra hand once i get outta school just give me a holler. id hate to see you get discouraged and drop this one.

Don't sweat the engine not turning over. Before you disable it, get it running at a high idle and give it the sea-foam treatment. Let it stall as usual, just don't crank it again. Turn it about half a revolution from time to time (maybe once a month) to keep tension off the valve springs or just back 'em all off and don't worry about it. The sea-foam will keep the rings in shape for at least a year. Making sure you have Lucas oil treatment will keep the bearings in shape.
I've been into projects before and wondered "oh, why the hell did I go here and how am I going to get to where I want to be?". The answer? Simply doing the next thing regardless if it was in the order I wanted to do it. Suddenly, you're at that point where you see daylight and everything comes together.
So, whatcha' sittin' there scratchin yer ass for? ;)

hold on Im wondering whats so special about the bajas???? I've seen like 2 in my life and they look pretty sweet....what ever the time it takes and no matter how long its down I think it would be worth it
Yeah, you guys are right... I need to get off my bum and work on it. I know how the 350 in my K5 sounds and I'd be thrilled to hear that from my BAJA... I was just looking at everything the other day and feeling like it was unsurmountable.
Anyhow steves1991, the S-10 Baja is an optional appearance package that was put on any type 4wd S-10 (regular-cab w/ short-box, regular-cab w/ long box and extended-cab w/ short box) from 1988 to 1991. The trucks came in 3 colors: Midnight Black, Apple Red and Frost White. The Baja option included: a roll bar with off-road lights, a front tubular grille guard with fog lights, a tubular rear bumper, an under-body shield package (transfer case shield, front differential shield, fuel tank shield, oil pan/steering linkage shields), a suspension package, a Chevrolet windshield banner, Baja decals on the box sides and one inch wide body striping. Extra cost Baja options included: a cargo-net end-gate, aluminum outlaw wheels and a special box-mounted spare tire carrier w/ aluminum wheel. In 1991 the S10 Bajas came with BAJA embroidered on the seat backs and unique door panel trim. You can see more info and pictures at my website here: http://www.s10baja.iwarp.com/ Just a warning, there are a lot of pop-ups because it is a free server. AND I haven't do anything to the site in forever, so I know some of the pictures may not be working.

that sucks, just slap on some jb weld and take it easy
I wish it were that easy... I know from living in the North that rust isn't too huge of a deal, but years of wheeling and road salt finally took its toll on it... I had already replaced some brake lines because they rusted out. I needed to replace a CV shaft... went to jack it up to replace the CV shaft and the frame buckled on the jack. I assessed the whole truck and the fuel lines were pretty rusty as well as other parts of the frame were bad... and I was starting to have some transmission problems too. So I took her off the road.
This is where my frame buckled on the jack:
