View Full Version : Junk Vehicle Law
On July 1st, it will be official... the Junk Vehicle Ordinance in my county goes into effect...

Now, we have 3 that are not operable and can be seen from the road. I've got a call out to get the one towed and I'm going to put Farm Use tags on the 69 C10, but the Baja is the sticking point... it is in pieces... I'm going to put a car cover on it and see if that works, otherwise I'm stuck with building a fence or towing it down the hill where no one can see it.
Damn that sucks. Just curious but is there any chance of being grandfathered in? I've heard of laws like this going into affect, but only affecting those who hit the limits or try and break it after the law has gone into affect.
Something like this happened to my Dad in Florida. They passed a law banning people from parking their boats in their driveways. But it turns out that if you had already been parking your boat in your driveway before the law went into affect and could prove it, you were exempt. Something haveing to do with unfair burden on existing expectations or something.
Anyways, I'm not a lawyer so you would need to check on this, but you might be able to keep all your vehicles if such and exemption exists and you really wanted to get around it.

Where I am a car cover will suffice if it's not tagged.

yea that tottaly sucks, I hate people, especially in the country that try and get all these laws about cars in the yard, if you want gorgeous planted yards move to the suburbs, cause the country is the only place that you can do what you want when you want to your property even if its having large four wheeled rusty yard ornaments
steves1991, unfortunately my county is getting over-run with yuppies that want to live in the 'country'. :( So, they pass laws like this... What I don't get is why I can't have them neatly lined up and covered with car covers even if you can see them from the road? It isn't like I have cars all over the yard and in the woods... Plus there is no ordinances against junk in general, just vehicles... so I guess if I get into trouble, I'm going to start putting junk all over the yard... tubs, toilets, barrels, pallets, wood piles. Would they rather look at that then my vehicles neat and covered in the driveway? :devil_125
Anyhow, I am thinking of getting one of these if I get into trouble:

It is ugly, but with you roll the 'door' down the vehicles aren't visible! I'll make sure I put it right in the front yard too...

most definately, I dont know if you or your husband hunt but if you do make sure and hang your deer carcasses in the front yard too
Well, my county had a board meeting about the junk vehicle law and because of some concerns and opposition, they pushed the date the law goes into effect to January 2007.
SO, I now have 6 months to finish the Baja/K5 hybrid... I've been doing a little here and there that past few weekends, mostly disassembly of the Baja and labeling of wires. Bought a wiring kit from Summit (very similar to the Painless kit) and I'm thinking of buying a push-button start system for the 350, so I can run it even if the wiring isn't done. Now, I'm going to try to devote every free moment to this project...
