I have a 95 s10 with a 350 in it. It has the turbo 350 trans in it but I want to swap it out for something with an overdrive.
I got my hands on a 200 r4 transmission from a neighbor who said it will bolt right in (same size and length) where the turbo 350 was. I took it in to a shop where they proceeded to pull the turbo 350 out and went to install the 200r4 and called me and said it wont work. It seems that the crossmember wont bolt up right because the trans mount is 6 inches further back than the other one.
My first thought here was move the crossmember back and re-install it with new holes. They then told me that the frame actually tapers down where it would need to be.
Frustrated, I called around and found someone who has a 700r4 with the custom driveshaft and the "mount" which I am assuming a custom crossmember but I dont know. It is coming out of his son's personal 95 "drag race" s10 that recently hit the wall.
I hope that fixes the problem and it should but i dont have it yet. I didnt know if any of you have run into the same problems and what you guys had to do to solve this.
I am told that the 700r4 is the better of the two and its supposed to be built but it was supposed to be delivered on monday and the shop where it is has been closed all week for the 4th. So i guess if for some reason i end up not getting it what are my option besides putting the turbo 350 back in.

The 700 will mount in the same location as the 350. The 200 is the same length overall but yes, the mount is a bit further back.

I'd rather run the 200 due to the better gear ratios. They held up just fine in Monte SS's and Buick Turbo Regals. As far as strength, I'd call 'em about even. GM did.

I'd see if I couldn't find a shop to fix me up with a crossmember for the 200. Can't be that hard.
