View Full Version : 185 degreee Safetystat for '96 4.3L???
Anybody know where I cans find a 185 degree thermostat for my '96 S-10 that is one of those "safetystats" that lock in the open position if it ever fails?
If so, what is the brand, and part number?
The one I have now is made by Murray, but it's 195 degree. I want 185 degree.
I know there has to be a 185 degreee Safetystat for '96 4.3L
It will probably have to be one from a different vehicle than my '96 S-10 cause all the parts houses tell me that all they show is the stock 195 stat.
Here's the dimensions of the Gates product that meets OE requirements;
GATES Part # 33019S
195 Degree; Seal included {Premium 195: Superstat (2 5/16" x 25/32" x 1 29/64" x 1 13/64") w/Seal}
If I could just get this in a 185 degree version...
Maybe I could drill a couple of holes in the OE thermostat to get more water flow to accomplish a slightly cooler running temp?

i don't know if the holes in the thermostat would allow you to use it in the winter.
i have a 170 failsafe one i got from autozone. don't know the part # though, sorry

although any small block chevy thermostat should work with a 4.3

OR, was it a standard stat like what was used in the older chevy 350?
I appreciate the lead; if nothing else, I'll go get another one like I installed from O'reilly's and take that over to autozone and have them match one up based on the size of the original.

looked like a standard thermostat but it has a rubber seal around it.
Well, I was finally able to obtain a 180 degree failsafe thermostat from Autozone today. Had to buy the rubber seal separate, but I think this one will work fine.
