My 4tech 88 s-10 would drive for a bit, stall, then have to sit for a while, start and repeat process. When it stalled it smelt like fuel. I got the ignition module done, plugs, wires, tune up. It still does it, and now it just wont start at all. Tries to start but just wont turn over all the way and start, and it smells like fuel when its trying to start. Any ideas? I think fuel pump.

Well... there could be a lot of things causing this to happen. Have you tried changing your fuel filter yet? Sometimes a engine will act like you explained when the filter is getting pretty cloged. When it gets so cloged that it can't run anymore... the junk will settle down if it sets for a while... then you can re-start it again. I'd try changing the filter first since it is supposed to be changed every 30 thousand miles or so anyway. Also if you get a chance to get it running... get up and under it and see if there is a leak. Or if smoke is going out of the tailpipe and that is where the fuel smell is coming from.... then it might just be your timing or some crap like that. Hope I helped. Let us know how it goes...:D

The 2.5 is fairly easy to diagnose a fuel starvation problem. You can see in the throttle body if the injector is working. A test light will reveal if voltage (red wire) is getting to it and also if the computer is pulsing it (brown wire). If it seems like it isn't getting enough fuel, have someone crank it while spraying carb clean into the throttle body. It will actually run on carb clean and that's an easy diagnosis. Use the test light to make sure the pump is getting suffecient voltage.
Another common problem with the 2.5 is the hall-effect switch in the distributor. If it fails, there will be no injector pulse, therefore no fuel.

are you getting spark? If you are smelling a lot of fuel near the engine that would mean the fuel pump is working, you can also have some turn the key and you have your ear near the tank you will be able to hear the pump run.
