Can anyone tell me if an '02 4L60-E trans currently mated w/ the 4.3 vortec will bolt up to the LS1? if it doesn't, does it need a different bellhousing or an adapter? I don't care about whether or not I need to upgrade the guts.. just simply, does it bolt up.. Thanks

i think the ls1 and older SBC like the 4.3 have different bellhousing bolt patterns
Bolt patterns are the same. There is a spacing issue though & you need some type of adaptor to make it work.
There are guys over at ls1tech.com who are using 3sp turbo350s on their LS1s so it can be done

I know that some of the heavy duty trucks w/ the LS block had cranks that required different flywheels or converters because of the spacing. What kind of spacing issue is there? is it the bell housing itself or the converter?

Well, I figured I'd come back to this incase someone else had the same question. There's a spacing issue if you use the older style converter in the new LSx style trans. The LSx 4l60e has a longer bellhousing than the older style for the 4.3/5.0/5.7(not the LSx 5.7). Not every flexplate has a 2nd set of holes & you may need to slot or drill a new set. Here's an article that's very informative on this.. http://www.jeepinpete.com/
